For me, it could be most of newer In Flames I'm not going to pretend that it even comes close to albums like Whoracle, Colony, or Clayman, but if I'm ever in the mood for some good alt-rock I have no problem putting on albums like A Sense of Purpose or Sounds of a Playground Fading, and I find myself really enjoying the time I spend with those albums

I did check out that Medusa song and you were right! I don't know what I was expecting but I thought it was going to sound lame and dated and it didn't to me. I don't think things sound as "dated" to me these days, especially since my recent love for deathmetal. This sounded fun and fresh to me. Playlist!

Never heard Christ Illusion or The Sound of White Noise regarded as "terrible" or "questionable". While not classics, these two are still pretty damn good. The only Slayer album I don't like much is "Repentless". That sounded half-assed.

Enjoyed this a lot! Firstly - Domination RULES. Fully agree with you regarding Slayer, In Flames, and The Haunted. All great records. I would add Voivod 'Angel Rat' because I think it is massively underrated. It's my fav of theirs! Also think Diabolus In Musica is given too much shit. It's a little slow, but Bitter Peace, Death's Head, Desire, Point, and Screaming From The Sky all rule. Oooo, King Diamond 'Spider's Lullaby'/'The Graveyard'/'Voodoo' are all underrated IMO.

Nice selection… it's like straight out of my teen years, The Sound of White Noise was my first favorite Anthrax album back in '94 or whenever it came out, then I slowly started inching more towards the back catalog increasing the head bang percentage rate.

Once again some really interesting picks and some that I absolutely concur with. - When it comes to Domination I think it's kinda meh. Now I'm not much of a Morbid Angel fan (when it comes to classic Death metal I'm more of a Bolt Thrower, Death or Entombed guy. Now one thing is certain: Dominate totally destroys! But as the album unfolds it starts to get more and more disengaging. Where The Slime Lives and Eyes To See Ears To Ear are also ok but that's all as far as I'm concerned. Still not a bad album IMO. - I really don't understand what makes people say Christ Illusion is a bad album, really... why??? Been a fan since '88 and can say that Christ Illusion is easily my #4 favorite Slayer album (only surmounted by the amazing trilogy of Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss). And it's not because of Lombardo returning (though it helped). This album recovers the consistency and sheer focus Slayer had while making thrash metal (Flesh Storm, Catalyst, Jihad, Consfearacy and Cult??? Come on... this is top tier Slayer) and pulling some really well penned slower tunes (Eyes Of The Insane is excellent). The only "recent" album on par with their golden years' ones. - Now I'm not into Job For A Cowboy but a band I'm into since their sophomore is In Flames and I couldn't agree more with you on this one. Hey... Whoracle and The Jester Race are masterpieces and although I loved Colony when it came out it started to age badly really soon (a bit samey) and I always thought Clayman was a bit uneven. So when Reroute came out I really thought their more accessible approach tasted a bit strange but it grew every time I listened to it. To a point songs like the title track, System Drifter, Trigger, Transparent, Black And White and even the mellow Metaphor became instant favorites. So, despite once again featuring some less achieved tracks this is easily a top 5 In Flames album in my book and really enjoy it. BTW I also think Soundtrack To Your Escape is a really good album and Come Clarity and A Sense Of Purpose still have some gems here and there. Past these albums as far as I'm concerned, came the absolute disaster. - The Dead Eye never clicked that much with me. Loved the debut and rEVOLVEr is simply put one of my favorite thrash/ core/ groove/ whatever metal albums from the 2000's. What a hugely underrated masterpiece of a record! And perhaps that's why I never gave The Dead Eye much of a chance. Ithas more groove indeed, is more experimental but when I think The Haunted I think this relentless rabid metal band leveling everything down. Not that this album is bad by any stretch and it still features some of that latent aggression in cuts like The Medication, The Shifter or The Stain. But I must confess it's one I rarely come back to. - Let me put it this way: there are three albums tied as my Anthrax favorites. One is Among The Living, the other is Persistence Of Time and the third is... Sound Of White Noise. Once again this is a band I saw 3 records come out before SOWN and although it surprised me it also left me in awe. There were evident shifts on the band's sound, more groove oriented but they still sounded, heavy, still sounded Anthrax. And although being somewhat different to POT this beast shares something with it: is also a really dark album. All tracks are killer /as it happens with ATL and POT). The only two reasons I see people not liking this beast is a) being into thrash solely when it comes to 'Thrax or b) disliking John's vocals (that makes a superb job here BTW). Top album. - As for Sepulnation is the only one I disagree. For me the only ok songs are Sepulnation, Revolt and the rest really sounds off lacks coherency IMO. Alongside Morbid Visions this is my least favorite album by Sepultura (I cut them some slack because they were really young when they recorded it - but then again they were even younger when they did Bestial Devastation and it's waaaaaaaay better so... I don't know). Hey to each his own. Peace.

Christ Illusion is such a great album. I never knew why people hated on it. Was it because the production is too clean? Great songs! Skeleton Christ and Jihad are awesome!!! The first two songs are amazing.

I'll give you my top 5: 1. Deftones: Gore- I know a lot of fans consider this their weakest point, but I thoroughly enjoyed this album and thought it was their best since White Pony; definitely a lot better than Saturday Night Wrist. 2. Iron Maiden: No Prayer For the Dying- there were some really good songs on here like Tailgunner and Holy Smoke; I liked it better than The Final Frontier. 3. Judas Priest: Jugulator- I thought Ripper did a solid job with the vocals and its a great heavy metal platter if you can get past the fact that its not with Halford; ill take it over Nostradermous any day. 4. Kreator: Outcast- I love this album. Bold statement, but this is my favorite Kreator album. Listen to it as just a metal album rather than a Kreator one. Its pretty badass. 5. Testament: Demonic- This album seems to rank low on their discography with a lot of people but I really dug this album and still love cranking it up in the car; great headbanging death-thrash!

Necrotic Nick- I don't think Gore is bad as much as it just doesn't sound as strong as most of their material and I should have thrown in Jugulator honestly. I do like that album. Cathedral Spires is one of my favorite Priest songs actually.

Gore is probably in my bottom tier but it's got good moments. It's not as bad as Saturday Night Wrist, which is my least favorite Deftones record. I agree with Jugulator, not their best but a solid album and Ripper did a pretty good job. And it is better than Nostradamus. Demonic is still my least favorite Testament album. I find it unmemorable and unremarkable. I tried.

Hi Nick, short time viewer first time caller here. Late to the party but not Richter. You nailed the In Flames assessment. Not close to the albums prior to Reroute but that was to be the end of line. Experimentation while never losing that core spine that frames their legacy, sound and identity. The quickly dismissed their misunderstanding of their experiments leaving their core DNA data out of records they released since. I Hoped for a solution with the recent release by "The Halo Effect" alas while an effective effort, not the solution to the In Flames problem. Good not great and damn did the early track releases sounded promising. I really wish Engel would reunite Gardenian. A COMPLETE TRADGEDY that Gardenian is not talked about in the SMDM or Gothenburg scene conversation. Jim Krell's vocals are damn near perfect and a rare real guttural tone normally not felt in this subgenre. A major influence for me. A band gone too soon. Finally shockingly the two new singles for the upcoming In Flames indicate that they may have realized how to fix the equation to get a In Flames result again. The data so far is promising. Christ Illusion also got me back into Slayer as well. Domination is pretty good, too. I don't have it above Altars of Madness nor have Altars as my #6 MA album, but I digress. Nation is still one of my least favorite Sepultura albums. I tried but I don't care for it. Some "bad" albums I am willing to defend: Slayer - Christ Illusion (I agree with you) Rush - Test for Echo (I think it's criminally underrated) Carcass - Swansong Morbid Angel - Heretic Black Sabbath - Born Again, Seventh Star Mötley Crüe - Mötley Crüe (1994 album) Fozzy - All That Remains Judas Priest - Point of Entry, Jugulator Blue Öyster Cult - Club Ninja Kiss - Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions Testament - Low I don't think any of these are the bands' best album (except the Fozzy album), but the albums above I listed, I find plenty to enjoy and I don't think they deserve the hate or overwhelming criticism they may receive.

Domination is my least favorite of the first 6 morbid angel albums....BUT eyes to see ears to hear,dawn of the angry and the title track are some of my favorites by morbid angel. Christ Illusion is by far my favorite post seasons slayer album. I’d also add Carcass heartwork (I Love it but I know tons of people that hate it) and Shitfun from Autopsy. And drifter is one of my favorite in flames songs.

Domination is a great record I love the guitare tone and you can definitely hear Erik Ruttan's work on the solos, the rest of the band is great and the sound is heavy and nice. Middle Cradle of Filth discography is very often criticize but I like it I would defend the Album : "Damnation and a Day From Genesis to Nemesis" that is a good record all the way through contains maybe 16 tracks but each 3 or 4 songs it's interlude and the songs are shorter in overall but it's still black symphonic Gothic metal like Cradle do and definitely worth the listen. Same for Sonata Artica some peoole continue to say it was better before but bands evolve and they went from a power speed metal to a progressive and symphonic metal and I really like the recents albums, if people like the genre indeed. So I will continue to defend this band. The black album by metallica I love it and will always defend it. And the list could continue on and on so I stop here but very interesting challenge many should do the same.

Sound of White Noise is amazing. Probably a top 3 anthrax record for me. Hard to describe. Elements of thrash, groove, 'basic metal'(like black album intensity/ish). I almost wanna call it metal industrial grunge?! But that's kinda why I often feel like....fuck genres, fuck labels. Does it sound good? Does it put a tickle in your Johnson? Yeah? Then the fuckin genre doesn't matter(none of that diatribe is directed at you Nick, not at all). Thralls ....... fuckin love this channel.

Necrotic Nick- I remember all the bad press it got when it came out and I didn't think it was really deserved. While it's not my favorite, I still really enjoy it. I definitely think that when people reacted negatively to it In Flames pretty much said "hold my beer" on most of these recent albums.

Only metal fundamentalist can hate The Haunted - The Dead Eye or Anthrax - SOWN, Sepultura changed their music style on Nation but album kick ass. Slayer album is good but way worse then Divine Intervention :)

I love Domination..great catchy songs. Really dislike Christ Illusion. I gave it a lot of chances, but I'm done with it. It really doesn't matter to me if it's Dave back in the band, or it's thrashier. It's all about how memorable the songs are, and these songs just aren't catchy or memorable. They're completely forgettable to me. I love Sound of White Noise...more than anything that came after it, but We've Come For You All was great...just can't remember the last time I played it. I loved Sepulnation...played it a lot. Lots of catchy, memorable songs. I think it's a more polished effort than Against, and it's a more confident album. I like Against a lot too, but it was a bit of a system shock when I was so used to Max..it took me a while. It's an angrier, rawer album. It really lacked Derrick's stamp though because the songs were already written before he joined. Roorback kind of lost me a bit though.

I love SOWN by Anthrax... one album I will always defend (and I get a lot of shit for this) The X Factor by Iron Maiden. Yes, it had a gloomily vibe, but the songs are good. But, TXF is their most important album, because it proved that they can continue without Bruce. Sure, VirtualXI was a bit flat with just a couple decent songs.... but I will hail TXF as one of my actual favourites... PS, when people say shit like "Blaze nearly killed Maiden"... I say "No. What almost killed Maiden was people who didn't want to give the new singer a fuckin chance. If they re-done TXF with their current lime up, people will praise it to the moon. Even though its the sane songs"... Just saying
