I hope I meet the criteria’s that you speak of. I really want to be character artist so bad to the point that I’m willing to spend whole days on developing the skill. But you are absolutely right about communication and ego. I think the reason why that comes is because the job is hard. I’ll do my best to become a great character artist. But I know for certain that I have to study lots of anatomy of faces, bodies, animals. The first step is anatomy for me then sculpting in ZBrush better (a whole lot of better and doing thousands of sculpts and characters) then learning the anatomy of clothing and building clothes. I think it’s also important to have fun along the journey. The process is different for everyone.

As an inhouse character artist, you're more likely to become a 'managing' type, building up pipelines, documentation and prepping for outsourcing studios. If you're lucky you get to do some key art and visual target work. Ofc this can vary depending on studio culture, size etc., but it most likely is gonna be like that. Also it's gonna be interesting to observe how future AI generated 3d art (yes, even characters) over the 10 years or so is gonna fit in. Because it will. Besides that, just be happy and doodle away in your free time :)

Hello, thanks for this video! I have a few questions Isn't a character artist and 3D artist 2 different job positions? Can you be a 2D character artist only or do you have to be a 3D character artist to work in the industry? Thanks in advance, coming from someone who specializes in 2D art and is interested in being a character artist for games & movies
