I agree with some of the points here, but I don't see how telling people that Carbon offsets don't work is good message. Obviously reducing emissions is always a superior choice, but the 'shifting moral responsibility' argument doesn't really hold up, because people who are willing enough to volunteer extra money for reducing emissions are already trying to reduce emissions. Telling them it's not worth it will only convince them to not by any offsets whilst flying the same amount, which is overall worse. A better message would be 'reduce flying as much as possible, then buy quality offsets for any flights you do take'.

I clicked "like" just from reading your title. I used to be a crazy climate alarmist until I started doing my research. I realized that the best way to reduce pollution is to reduce our usage. I now ride a bike almost everywhere. Reduced my carbon footprint more than these ridiculous carbon offsets would.

Can you tell me why the carbon offsetting schemes 'don't work'? You mentioned it at no. 2.

Can you comment on Google’s carbon offset? They claim their offsets are effective.

Well yes, if you cut down the forests that doesn't help. But quite simply trees and plants are made of atmospheric carbon and pull carbon out of the air. Simply saying 'carbon offsets don't work because carbon offsets dont work' is a bit silly.

You're totally ignoring the fact that the carbon credit price will change over time. And this is the main incentive for this scheme to work. So you're not getting the basic idea. Thanks.
