To me with Phil is this is a man who has taken in his nephew that he grew to love as his own. deal with said nephew changing both his way and his kids but also helped all his children grow up and let them make mistakes. A man that was protective of his family, who taught his children that not everything was easy. Became a father to a boy that needed one. Tough but fair, listened to his family. Held his temper in until he could not anymore but never lost it unless it was needed. Let his kids know that he wasn't invincible (heart attacks). He was one of the best t.v. fathers who you could see in real life.

I have no doubt when the cameras stopped rolling he was still Uncle Phil. He just radiated strength and warmth. Will was the star of the show, but Avery was the heart.

Mr. Avery reminds me of one of my dad's friends. My dad passed away when I was like 8, and my dad's friend always made sure I was ok and made sure I had everything. My mom said my dad and him were childhood friends and that my dad pulled him out of a burning car when another car ran a red light and crashed into them. He would lend me his truck when I would go out on a date when I got older and gave me advice; I couldn't thank him enough.

It wouldn't seem right to not include Danny Tanner in the group, Avery/Goodman/Saget were veritable legends of the 90s, and honestly still share that pedistal with Carl Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson), Tim Allen, Frank Lambert (Patrick Duffy from Step by Step), and William Russ (Alan Matthews) from Boy Meets World. Maybe that's my main group, but I can imagine others share a good deal of the same list thanks to TGIF.
