Is it possible to lower TPO antibodies if you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis? The answer is yes, but it's not guaranteed. We will talk more about that in just a minute but for now I want you to keep the following in mind:
1. The treatments we are going to discuss work for more than just TPO antibodies. They will also be beneficial for those with thyroglobulin antibodies and even TSI antibodies in Graves' disease. This is because antibodies stem from immune dysfunction and many of these treatments balance the immune system.
2. Just because these treatments have been shown to help others doesn't mean they will automatically work for you. It will take some trial and error to figure out what works best for your body.
3. Even though antibodies are never normal and your goal should be to get your antibodies as close to zero as possible, don't stress if you can't get there.
With this in mind, here are 6 treatments that are effective at lowering thyroid antibodies:
1. Nigella sativa. This is the plant that produces black seeds which are then used to create black seed oil. This plant has been shown to have a pro-thyroid effect, a thyroid antibody-lowering effect, and a benefit to fat mass.
2. LDN or low-dose naltrexone. LDN is used off-label to treat inflammatory conditions and is effective for about 50% of people who use it.
3. Diet. Many diets are effective but some of my favorites include gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and whole30.
4. Vitamin D. Taking vitamin D by itself won't be enough to lower your thyroid antibodies but it can help when it's part of a complete treatment regimen. Use it in conjunction with the other treatments listed here.
5. Selenium. Selenium helps protect your thyroid gland from inflammation and is great for those with Hashimoto's if they are selenium deficient.
6. Testosterone, androgens, or DHEA. Androgens are a "secret" treatment that can help balance the immune system. Women can use low dose testosterone replacement therapy if their testosterone is low.

I'm so frustrated with my endocrinologist who is only focusing on my thyroid and failed to address any of these neither listen to her patient. Almost 9 months I don't feel better she kept increasing the tyrosine dosage. I decided to go for second opinion with another endocrinologist. When I set infront of him I realised it was biggest mistake to see him. He was telling hashimoto autoimmune thyroiditis is not a rocket science. Just take your medication. In fact he increased my daily dosage. These doctors don't want their patients to be cured. They wanted to ensure they have permanent income from ATM machine call as patient. Very depressing nowadays doctors not only not listening to their patients experience despite working within the templates. I truly wish I can find one reliable endocrinologist 😢

You are in the right place as you have found dr Childs channel. I was with my doctor for more than 3 years then I found dr Childs. I had so much cortisol, I had to beg her to do a test to find out why I couldn't sleep. Of course I knew it because of this dr. In 2022, I started weaning off synthroid and now I am free from the medication. I cleaned up my liver first, took t3 conversion booster then felt great then glandular and daily thyroid supplement multivitamin and I can lose weight now. I had some luck with lowering my TPO antibodies in a six month period but I stopped what I was doing and it went back up. I am doing this again but since then I have learned more about this. I started at TPO antibodies at 154. I started taking 20,000 I.U.s of vitamin D3 per day plus I removed dairy and cut out all vegetable oils. My TPO antibodies went from 154 to 100 in three months. The next three months, it went from 100 to 60. However for some dumb reason, I quit what I was doing and ate regular again. The antibodies went up. I did some reading and now I really believe it is caused by Leaky Gut. That is the beginning point. You just have to fix that. I believe you do that with a long fast with water only past three days. I am about to do a five day fast. I am basing it off this story on what happened to this woman. Her fasting sealed the gut lining. She had done two long fasts within six months. Her Hashimoto's was gone and three years later she said it was still gone.

Do away with the Nightshade vegetable(potatoes, peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes) and you can stop or slow down leaky gut syndrome. These veggies create fissures in stomach lining so toxins from stomach juices leak thru and go into you blood system. The one nightshade you may be familiar is Belladonna. This was use as a poison long ago. So there some toxins in the previous named foods. Do your own research to learn more. I gave up these foods years ago. I eat lots of onions, different cabbages, garlic, garlic scapes, squashes, ( yellow summer, zucchinis , pumpkins), celery, carrots, lettuces, fruits , pickled vegetables, steamed broccoli, steamed cauliflower , leeks as well as low fat meat , fish, shrimp, mackerel, salmon, sardines , liver, mixed nuts, cucumbers. As you see I dont eat rice, some grains. Hope this helps you decide your path. You also see there is a lot of variety.

I have a lot of health issues. My tpo antibodies show 30, which most people assume is a good range. My doctor of course thinks this is normal.. but would this low of a range be able to cause extensive symptoms? I've been taking 200 mcg selenium for a few weeks now without noticing a difference. Which he says that could be because I wasn't deficient to begin with with selenium levels.. I'm already gluten free and low carb, little to no processed foods. The main impediments to treating low thyroid are doctors. Most are stuck on TSH levels and Rx with T4. Even many Endocrinologists can be difficult to work with. Arm yourself with good info and have serious discussion with your Dr. I found that finding a good Naturopathic Dr to be beneficial. One more note, if you supplement with D3 you should also take K2 MK-7. Thank you Dr Childs for your great info. Finally gave up and went back on levo. I have also started supplementing with kelp for iodine and with Selenium. I now feel as good as I have for many years. Perhaps rather than synthroid you may try levothyroxine. I found selenium really helped. Can't say the iodine makes a big difference but it's not hurting either. I have been hypothyroid for over 40 years. Wasn't diagnosed with Hashimoto until 25 years in. Many ups and downs. Finding a good Naturopathic Dr has been the biggest help.

Interesting and informative. Thank you @Dr. Westin Childs. I wonder if you can also comment on endocrine disrupters like swimming pool chlorine and fluoridated toothpaste and water. These are things I’m exposed to daily and recently developed some thyroid symptoms even though I’d managed (through healthy lifestyle) to not have problems before despite a very high TPO discovered more than a dozen years ago. Last year I had some major dental work done and began using a prescription high fluoride toothpaste as instructed by my dentist. I also began swimming most days at my community center, usually first thing in the morning during a fasting window. In retrospect, I can’t help but wonder if my now enlarged thyroid was a sponge to those daily habits without me knowing. I’m on a tiny 25mcg dose of synthroid now and decided to take it at night to try and have it absorbed fully before I brush my teeth and hit the pool (I also went back to regular toothpaste and added separately ashwaganda that seems to help in my water). My endocrinologist also advised I resume selenium that I used to take daily but advised against iodine (I’d taken it in the form of sea kelp and was told to stop). I go back in a week to follow up with my doctor and I’m open to ideas of other strategies to discuss. Oh and btw, I’ve been soy free for over 25 years. I also eliminated dairy and most caffeine a couple of years ago with great success but I reverted back to a coffee habit and am thinking it’s time to drop that again, maybe for good.

Are you still swimming? I was diagnosed with Hashimotos a month and a half ago. I’m a triathlete and swim in chlorine pool. I develop a rash that gets aggravated after swimming. The only way I’ve found to semi control it is to slather myself with Vaseline before I swim . Then I rinse and hit the steam room . Any tips you have would be appreciated.
@sandyedwards2681
@sandyedwards2681 9 ай бұрын
@@laurabernal2934 thank you for commenting. I’ve reduced my days in the pool (and overall time in the pool) for awhile now (a few months) and am thinking about what to do next. I like your vaseline idea, especially for a physical barrier to prevent any rash. I do think even better hydration and moisturizing before going into the pool might benefit me, so I’m going to try that. I did switch again to taking thyroid medication in the morning, drinking water, and also eating breakfast (which is a change for me) then going to the gym a bit later in the morning. Lately, I’m working out with cardio (treadmill) then weights before I head to the pool but some days I go to a Zumba class instead or I just don’t have enough time to get to the pool. This worked ok for the summer as I intentionally pulled back from all the laps I’d been doing in exchange for more social/casual beach and pool time with friends. Honestly I think the onset of Hashimoto for me (both when the markers showed up years ago and recently when my TSH was messed up) had something to do with life stress beyond the chlorine and fluoride concerns I mentioned. Especially the dental work itself was very stressful for me. Still I believe those substances played a contributing role and I just want to troubleshoot enough so that I don’t have to worry about being a sponge absorbing whatever is not serving me.
@sandyedwards2681
@sandyedwards2681 9 ай бұрын
@@laurabernal2934 btw I was symptom free with Hashimoto markers for more than a decade so please know that it’s possible to manage! And for all that time, it was living a more balanced lifestyle that was the trick (no medications in my case). The thing with autoimmune disease like this is that our stress level is probably the biggest factor above all else. And that’s what I’m figuring out (again). While I don’t know that I’ve reversed it yet (I go back for follow up with my doctor next month), I am grateful that things have stabilized for me and seem to be improving (over the past 6-8 months)

I was on testosterone for awhile (yes, I have Hashimotos.) It was...something else. Yes, I had more energy, I could feel gains at the gym coming faster. But, I also very quickly started growing facial hair, got acne (at age 55 or so,) thought about sex, usually kind of gross sex, all the time, and my husband just got super irritating. I think it's safe to say my dose was a bit high, but a doctor did calculate it. Supposedly my levels of everything (estrogen and progesterone too,) were basically zero. Left off the testosterone for the second round, lost the less desirable effects, and the desirable ones, but found my husband was still really irritating. Decided to quit altogether after that 10 months or so, started bleeding, didn't stop until I had a D&C about six months later. (Was too embarrassed to go see an ob-gyn, finally decided I had no choice.) Am I just extra sensitive to hormones?

LDN is great for me. 5 years now and stabilized on 4.5 mg per evening. But I’ve also eaten properly for me for the past 14 years, which helped so much. LDN was a great lever for me, and diet was key, too, which is zero sugar, zero grains and grain substitutes, zero starchy foods, zero soy, and ultimately, very very low carb. From April to October, I optimize my vitamin d levels with sun exposure. I supplement the rest of the year, but I feel best with the sun. I take Lugol’s iodine daily, but I ramped it up very slowly, I use topical testosterone and oral DHEA, both prescribed by my doctor and compounded at a compounding pharmacy, same providers who prescribe my LDN. All of this took a few years to work out, but it’s so worth it. I love my life now. You’re the only doctor talking about these helpful levers. Thank you for talking about this.

Within 6 months I've managed to reduce my anti-TG (thyroglobulin) antibodies from 401 to 62. But the second type of antibodies, ANTI-TPO - it remains unchanged (42). Is this a common tendency? Are the antiTG antibodies somehow easier to manage than the antiTPO? Are anti TG 'first in the line' to drop when you take action to regain your health? I am curious about other people's experiences. All the best for the Hashi-Warriors💪 and big Thank You for dr. Westin Childs, your work is so much needed & appreciated!

my anti tg-antib was 25 for two years, I know it's not a high number. everything else is ok, as far as the thyroid gland is concerned. in order to preserve the pregnancy, to lower my immunity, they gave me the drug Pronisone 10 mg every day, vitamin D, 30 drops per week. it only lasted a week, because the pregnancy did not last. when I got the results of the thyroid gland again, the tg-antib dropped from 25 to 17. the doctors were surprised, but they didn't know if it was from the medicine I was taking, because that medicine is a corticosteroid that lowers immunity and reduces inflammation, and how is possible in such a short period of time

I have a lot of health issues. My tpo antibodies show 30, which most people assume is a good range. My doctor of course thinks this is normal.. but would this low of a range be able to cause extensive symptoms? I've been taking 200 mcg selenium for a few weeks now without noticing a difference. Which he says here, that could be because I wasn't deficient to begin with with selenium levels.. I'm already gluten free and low carb, little to no processed foods. Trying to wean myself off cheese cause I love the stuff lol. I've been taking liposomal Vit D3 with K2 for a while now, as recommended by doctor. The K2 keeps calcium issues in check that can happen when only taking vit d by itself. I take Magnesium Glycinate before bedtime, also recommended to me by my gynecologist. Most people, especially Americans and females, could benefit from magnesium supplemtation. It's great mitochondrial support. Every cell of our body requires magnesium to properly function. That being said- I have not noticed ANY decrease of any of my extensive symptoms. Oh, and I also did the thiamine protocol a few months back that's recommend for chronic health issues, especially auto immune disorders and fibromyalgia. Well, same thing. Nothing. Being disabled, I don't have the money to keep buying this and that and the time and effort involved as well..to yield ZERO results. I'm beyond frustrated 😔

I just came across your videos. Thank you. I sincerely appreciate the time to take to research and share all this information. On lowering TPO antibodies, does this also apply to thyroglobulin antibodies? I have never tested positive for elevated TPO antibodies, but I did have elevated thyroglobulin antibodies, 345 in 2019, and 1194 in 2020. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and have been on and off both levothyroxine and Liothyronine. I suspect that if your recommendations work for elevated TPO antibodies, it will probably work for the thyroglobulin antibodies too, but I want to confirm this with you. Thank you.

@Susan Lampman Well, you could have vit d activation problems Dr's usually only test the load phase at the liver, to determine vit d, levels Problem is, ur load phase could be high but...ur vit d may not be getting activated by ur kidneys Without this, pre active vit d, is useless Hope you are taking vit d with a lot of fat? Can of course be healthy fats This is absolutely essential, as Vit d is fat solulable Meaning, without enough fat, it wont even absorb properly It can be other things too, like low stomach acid/low enzymes/liw parathyroid hormone, which acts on a lazy kidney enzyme, to activate ur vit d Sounds like you may need an expert Which I am not I just know quite a lot

It's good to remember also that iron has a loop mechanism with Vit D, so that if either one is low also the other one is more likely low, so in order to get your Vit D up remember to also check you iron levels (hemoglobin, basic red cells, ferritin and transferrin saturation) and correct it at the same time :)

@drwestinchilds
@drwestinchilds Жыл бұрын
It's hard to get a high enough dose in capsules, the best thing to do is mask the taste with something else like juice or a smoothie or dilute it in water and then take it that way. Here are some tips from my website: "The black seed oil in Hashimoto’s Ab Rx has a unique mild to moderate flavor that is generally well tolerated but if you are having any issues with the taste or flavor, here are a few tips to help get it down: Squirt the contents into the back of your throat and then take a drink immediately afterward. This limits the ingredients from touching your taste buds which will decrease their flavor. You can dilute each serving in a small amount of water or juice and then drink the entire thing in one or two swallows. Put Hashimoto’s Ab Rx in a smoothie. This will allow you to get all of the benefits while minimizing the taste and flavor!"

Have your FREE T3 checked. You are taking only T4 and that needs to be converted to T3 which is the active form. Drs are not informed and you need to become knowledgable and insist on corrext testing. Careful that they do the FREE T3 and not T3 uptake or total T3. Those are ok to test also but you need to see if your FREE T3 is ok. When you go to do the blood draw Make sure to ask what test they are doing. I have walked out of the blood draw More than once because the doctor ordered tests other than the FREE T3.

They’re actually originally from cotton seed which was a waste product back in the day and they had to use so much poison and toxic materials to get oil out of it that it was very unhealthy. But they clean it up so that it doesn’t smell horrible and then peddle it to the human beings as though it’s real food. I’ve been doing this since back in the Crisco days. Never use any of those oils, Wesson, safflower, corn oil, all of them are poison. Olive oil, beef, tallow, butter, coconut oil, those are the type of oil do you want to use. This black seed oil is not what he’s talking about. I know it’s confusing.

@phillippalee1966 If cancer has been ruled out and you don’t have nodules, it sounds like you need to test all 3 thyroid antibodies (TPOAb, TgAb and TRAb ) and RT3 (Reverse T3), Vitamin D and Iodine levels to start. Testing your cortisol could also be helpful. If your doctor won’t order tests to figure the root of your problem, get a 2nd opinion, find a doctor who will or locate a holistic doctor. If finances aren’t an issue, you can order (and pay for) your own thyroid tests in the UK. Even a doctor who refuses to order antibodies tests will listen once you show them lab results. Here’s the info for the 3 hormone tests and RT3 test. You can also order Vitamin D and Iodine levels from the same place. Once you have results, you can educate yourself on what’s too high and low (and how to fix it) and find a good practitioner to guide you. When I changed my diet and removed common allergens like gluten, soy and dairy, I got my antibodies down from over 8000 to 850. At first I went on a raw food diet but eventually added back meat and cooked foods. I am in the process of removing my old silver (Mercury) fillings and cleaning out other issues to get it down further. If you have old metal fillings, it’s something to consider. Selenium and Vitamin D have brought it down another few hundred points but I still have work to do. To me it seems my body was trying to tell me that it didn’t like some of the “toxins” in it. As I remove them, my high labs continue to reduce. Here’s info about how to order your own tests and 4 of the tests to start. You can also enter “Vitamin D”, “cortisol” and “Iodine” in the search line to locate those tests. I would definitely request these specific tests from a doctor if you have insurance prior to paying for them on your own. privatebloodtests.co.uk/ RT3 privatebloodtests.co.uk/products/private-blood-test-for-reverse-t3-in-blood?_pos=12&_sid=cdf8b425b&_ss=r TgAb privatebloodtests.co.uk/products/private-blood-test-for-thyroglobulin-antibodies-in-blood?_pos=13&_sid=cdf8b425b&_ss=r TPO privatebloodtests.co.uk/products/private-blood-test-for-thyroid-peroxidase-antibodies-in-blood?_pos=6&_sid=cdf8b425b&_ss=r TRAb privatebloodtests.co.uk/products/private-blood-test-for-thyroid-receptor-antibodies-in-blood?_pos=10&_sid=cdf8b425b&_ss=r
