I was sick for 3 years after my thyroid was radiated for Grave's Disease. I had many of these classic signs that my dose of Synthroid was too high but my endocrinologist failed to recognize it because my TSH was in the normal range. I was waking up at 3 to 4 in the morning with my heart racing 140-160 beats a minute. My endocrinologist said this was anxiety. Like I schedule my anxiety for 3 in the morning! I would leave his office in tears. I looked like a prison camp survivor. I knew I was sick and he made me feel this was all in my head. I went to an awesome acupuncturist who told me I needed to go to a cardiologist. I went to a cardiologist who specializes in women and she said it is not uncommon for woman to have a TSH in the normal range but still have a thyroid issue. She put me in a heart monitor for a month and when she told me this wasn't in my head and she thought my thyroid replacement medication was too high, I hugged her and started crying. She called my endocrinologist, he lowered the dose, and I was "well" within 3 weeks after being sick for 3 years. I "fired" him on the spot and haven't been back to an endocrinologist since. The sad thing is I saw several endocrinologists for a 2nd opinoion while I was sick and not a single one of them identified the problem!

I had heart palpitations with too high dose and you described what it feels like perfectly. Reduced dose but now I have flushing in my cheeks 2 weeks into reducing dose, although hair falling out has improved. My thyroid will feel tightness depending on what i eat and knees will ache and feel tightness when i bend or kneel down and difficult to get up BUT I have found walking to improve the knee side effects UPDATE: A MONTH LATER AND FEELING WAY BETTER. WAS ON 3 X 50MCG = 150MCG AND NOW DOWN TO 1 X 50MCG DAILY I have not gained any weight, my appetite is reduced, I watch what I eat. Knees feel better, I go for a brisk walk 2 miles minimum a day this helps quite a bit. Throat no tightness only first few days then subsided. I'm hoping to get off this medication and obviously after a month of continuous improvement, I'm happy with results. My TSH was too low, T4 in normal range, antibodies below normal range. I was put on medication after partial thyroidectomy surgery 12 years ago and haven't felt the same since.

I am bouncing around like a rubber ball adjusting to the dose. Tired then wired then both at the same time. I have extreme symptoms it seems. I can feel all the changes when they happen. And yes I have palpitations almost daily. I feel them both if levels are a little high or low, but they feel different with each and both uncomfortable in their own way. When I have no palpitations I feel more normal. I had a hot face when the rest of me was either normal or cool long before I was dx with thyroid problems. Had no idea why and it drove me nuts! Very uncomfortable. Some days I have to use a cool cloth and fan for hrs to be comfortable. Other days I am bundling up, even wearing a knit hat when it's 73 inside. Ugh. I want balance. I had synthroid overdose and my high blood pressure was high and my kidney got hurt , I had nocturia , for 6 months I couldn’t sleep , it looked like I got hyperthyroidism, they related my hot flashes to menopause , I stopped synthroid and all my symptoms ran away . At this point I'm totally confused. It came in little capsules that looked like vitamin E, if you poked it oil could come out. My best description. I'm so mad, I was beginning to feel a little better. Now I have to start again on ?? 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, my thyroid gland was removed in 2003. Over the years I have needed less hormone and my symptoms usually include palpitations. I have them right now and am clueless as to what dose I currently need. It is hard to contact an endocrinologist because they may be overwhelmed with diabetic clients.

After my daughter was born my menses stopped and i was always cold. My Dr sent me for tests because he knew what was probably the cause. My thyroid levels were low. He continued to increase them until i was feeling well and was at a safe level. It was a year long process. I was sent to an endocrinologist who recommended 1/4 of the dose. I stayed where my Dr put me. Over the years i saw various Dr who stayed with the recommended numbers and my fatigue worsened. I still get cold easily but I'm sensitive to heat as well. Im taking a statin. When that was lowered my thyroid levels lowered and the Dr increaded the levothyroxin. Crazy 11:34

This is DEAD ON! I am currently struggling with all of these symptoms. I have mold toxicity, so I use an infrared sauna and typically eat an AIP diet. This summer, I have decided to do some intermittent fasting and cut a few carbs (like my morning fruit smoothie). This has caused fluctuations in my levoxyl dosage. These symptoms are scary. I am often debilitated until the next day, when I cut my dose by 25%. The odd thing is that I have to experience these wacky sensations before I know I have to cut back for a day. I wish I could prick my finger and do at home test daily. Do you have any suggestions? I just got my blood drawn this morning to get a new reading. My functional medicine doctor is not a big believer in intermittent fasting for 58 year old women, but I’m so sick of the additional 20-30 pounds. I’d love to hear from you.

My Tsh was 16.270 in 2019. Provider started me on 50 mcg of generic levothyroxin. Two months later it was 6.560. My only symptom was that I was always cold. (and overweight but that’s because I eat too much/poorly). I could not tolerate 50 mcg though. I was so irritable and sweaty all the time. I had to poo at least four times before even leaving the house every morning! Provider said I could break tablets in half and my levels have been great ever since. 3.020 in April.

It felt like traveled around left side of my head and recently I'll hear two tones. Docs forq hearing tests and took MRI's and they all came out normal meaning there was no permanent reason I'd have it. Good news. An endro told me it was a less common reaction to T3 overmedication. From combing Reddit and they internet, it seems NDT's can mess with your auditory stuff. Ask a doc about levo or tirosent and cytomel? I'm doing better on levo. It's been two months since stopping the meds, just started levo. I'm still having issues, but they're noticeably subsiding. Maybe it was the t3 but also some people just have wacky reactions to NDT's even if they're tests are normal so it might be been other stuff doing it to you.

I have been taking synthroid for 20 years after I had a goiter the Dr. gave me the radiation pill. Once they got the medication down to 50 mcg that’s what I’ve bee taking all this time. I’m 71 with gray hair which is thin at the back of the crown, my hands do hurt and have for years and I do have hot flashes. Otherwise I feel good still work,walk everyday I’m able. This I can say because I experienced it, I was on a high dose of T4T3 90 mcg. I was losing hair but as my Dr increased the T3 within six months my hair started to break off, it was breaking off in various places but particularly on the top of my hair. I was devastated, I was also irritable, couldn’t sleep, and had a resting heart rate of over 80. It all happens quite slowly you don’t realize it all at once. My TSH was completely surpressed but my T3,was 4.0 so in my case T3 was too high too most Drs say T3 should be 3.5 to the upper part of the range.T3 4.0 completely suppressed my TSH. At this point I had two inches of hair on the top of my head and some of the sides and back of my hair just broke off. My Dr immediately reduced the dose of T3, now I am trying to work my way back up so my hair can start growing back it’s been only 4 weeks I went from TSH 0.01 to 0.52 I still need a way to go. I am on 75 levothyroxine my T4 is 1.3, and my T3 is now 2.7 still a bit on the lower side. I went from hypothyroid to hyperthyroid that was not a good trip but now I know the difference. My nails have finally stopped lifting from the nail bed but still not growing. My hair is now white and growing back very slowly. I will see my Dr next week we will go over the numbers of my. May labs. It’s hard to understand the opposite of hypo to hyper but trust me once you are there you will know. I now keep a journal and Tara know my heart resting rate. It went from 80s to low 70s and I no longer have insomnia, I am a bit constipated but not as bad as I was when I was first diagnosed. Be very aware of hypo symptoms and hyper symptoms as Dr Childs says it’s really the extreme opposite. What a trip. I hope this helps someone T4 and T3 combinations have to be monitored and symptoms journaled in my experience. To have your hair break off is devastating and caused me great anxiety and depression. Take your time as Dr Childs says go slow when increasing T3 doses.

Oh my gosh when I was on Levo I had rapid heart rate, terrible heat flashes that’s why I switched to compound T4 and T3 SR I sent my endo to hell. He said my lab numbers were perfect meanwhile I was suffering. Endos only look at the lab numbers that’s it!

Endos won’t listen they only read labs, you maybe be able to find one who well deal with compounds but most can’t be bothered it’s sad I know but don’t give up it took me four doctors only one was an endo! Too much Tirosint ratio to piothyronine is Insomnia, loose stools & a little bit of anxiety. I think that it’s perfectly reasonable to adjust the dose by 25mcg either way and see how you feel. Another test that is helpful is to measure your temperature first thing in the morning at the same time as doing the resting heart rate. If it is below normal and the heart rate is in the fifties, it’s fairly obvious that you need a little more.

Doctors said it could be a virus though they didn't understand what was wrong with me. Then soon we discovered it was overdoses of levothyroxine. In that period I was eating a los of pancakes, lake a crazy, eating sweats, all those bad carbohydrates. I didn't feel week but I felt shortage of breath. The main problem was the shortage of breath. As if I couldn't breath with my lungs 100%. It was wierd, I could not breath as a normal person. And it was not COVID, they checked it, it was negative. So we lowered the doses and soon I felt better.

Thank you for this channel…I’m learning so much. I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and started taking levothyroxine 50mcg and liothyronine 5mcg a week ago. I’m 73, 110 lbs. I started having loose stools a few days ago (but I also have IBS) and then for the past two days have been having hot flashes, nervousness and mood swings. I’ve never had a panic attack before but this feels close. When I was tested, my thyroid antibodies are extremely high, but my TSH is 5.52 and t4 and t3 are still right in the middle of the normal range. My functional Dr told me to stop taking t3 right now, but I’m wondering if i should also drop the t4 dosage, because I’m really uncomfortable, and I’m having trouble working and keeping myself together. Is it possible my system is overreacting because my free t3 and t4 are still in the normal range? Thank you

Problem is stress can have a big impact on the thyroxine levels in your body and that in turn can multiple your difficulties tremendously. I find stress a real difficulty in today's society, you just have to try and find strategies for coping with it better in order to minimise the damage to your physical health.

It might sound paradoxical, but I use to experience weightGAIN when overdosed. As a matter of fact, the overdrive makes me eat more - out of nervosity, boredom, hoping it will calm me down ...). When I am underdosed, I tend to be so depressed that I won't have the drive to decide what to eat, go shoppping, prepare meals a.s.o, so I often loose weight (but don't recommend as a method for weight loss ;-). When it comes to heartrate, training should also be factored in - as an athlete, mine has recently come up from 43 to 51 (thanks to an increased dose of T4 ). Even though this might still be low in your books, I otherwise feel like at the high end of an adequate dose and would certainly not want to increase it further. (I am 64 now, on T4 since I am 18, so quite some experience). P.S. It seems that athletic training might require an increased dose, so it can be tricky to find the goldylock level when cycling through different training loads and rest periods - perhaps you want to make a video on the subject?

thank you. i am atheltic and my resting heart rate so so low, my dose increased to 50mc twice a week and i am currently gaining becaus not sure ,i am so so dizzy lightheaded, starving the past 3 days, scary , i feel maybe i need to get bloodwork done again good news my tsh went from 2.5 to 1.6 and finally for first time my t3 came to exactly normal at 2.0 but not feeling strong , feel weak past 2 wees because so dizzy cant workout and over hungry

I know this "nervous energy". It feels like you're a car on the highway, driving in first gear. Everything in your body seems to be working too fast and preparing for a marathon - despite you're doing nothing but sitting. Really stressful and tiring! In addition to the symptoms mentioned in the video, my hands become shaky. And the heatintolerance is so big, I can't sit and lean against the backrest, because the heat at my back is dammed to a point, I can't bear it any longer. But I only get these symptoms certain days in a row, despite I take a constant dosage of L-Thyroxin. Everything can be fine for months - until something happens, an infection or something like that, and I feel heavily overdosed. As I read, there is something called "Hashitoxicosis", where a lot of thyroid tissue is destroyed and therefore a lot of hormones are released. And because this can be triggered by infections, I think that this is exactly, what is causing my symptoms. Unfortunately, this never shows in my TSH-levels :( And my only remedy is, to reduce my intake of L-Thyroxin, which is giving me relief after 48h. Then I can breathe normal again without the feeling of having a heavy stone on my chest and I can sleep for more than 5 hours. What else can I do to avoid those "hyperthyroid phases"? Or if this isn't possible, what can I do to manage the symptoms? edit: I only take 25 ug of L-Thyroxin.

My doctor recently adjusted my Levothyroxine I was on a 25 MCG dose and she upped it to 50 MCG dose and I had awful effects from it my chest has been tight from it I ended up going to the ER they did an EKG they did all these tests they didn't realize that it might be the thyroid medicine and I brought it up to the cardiologist I saw and he wasn't sure but I'm almost positive it has to do with the Levothyroxine because I think I was at that borderline level whether I needed medicine to begin with and when she upped it to 50 I've had really bad effects and I'm trying to wean myself off levothyroxine and I was wondering what your suggestion is to to gradually get off of Levothyroxine and how to take care of the symptoms I'm having tightness in my left arm tightness in my chest when I walk I get really dizzy and lightheaded it's just really bad I would appreciate if you can comment on that

I had all those symptoms. My daughters friends think I'm a cranky person. My pulse was 100. Normally 70. Heat intolerance. Diarrhoea +++ each day, I'm the whole list. Palpitations galore . My dose is reduced now. I feel different and better.

Hello Dr I was so happy to see this. I have been over medicated taking Levothyroxine 112mg. It started a few months after having Covid. My hair started falling out, dry skin very fatigued. I chalked it up as having Covid. But about a week ago I woke up sweating, anxiety, sick to my stomach. I went to the doctor and sure enough my TSH levels were high. I was diagnosed years ago with Graves they burned out my thyroid. The doctor took me off the higher dose for 4 days then I started my lower dose I'm on my second day. How long does it take for you to be able to sleep? And feel better? I never thought I would feel this way again.

It can take at least 5 days to start feeling better and that was with me stopping the medication completely. Then I took half doses for several days and then started on my new lower dose which took a couple of weeks to start feeling better. Levothyroxine builds up in your system and it's not a quick thing. Unfortunately!

when i had covid in 2020 before it was being tested for . i know i had covid cos i had pretty much every symptom . Then i got a goiter and my specialist said that the viral infection could have caused the thyroid gland to attack itself. it was really swollen on the one side. and my thyroid meds had to be regulated but i still don't feel well. I have gained at least 10 pounds.

I don’t know what to do. I have had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism and my doctor, who initially performed only the TSH test in response to my request to test me for it had his secretary call me and say it was fine, didn’t seem to be interested in why I had symptoms with a normal test. After reading that this is common I eventually asked if he would refer me to an endocrinologist. It was only then that he did another test involving T3 and T4 and that he finally scheduled a follow up meeting, presumably to discuss the results. In fact, he just wanted to petulantly point out how right he was while refusing to discuss symptoms and referring me at the same time. Naturally I was refused by the specialist as well, and now I’m left with zero follow-up at all. I finally realized that my diet was probably deficient in iodine so I tried supplementing, and after a couple weeks some of the symptoms lessened. But I’m still not sure where to go from here. I’m seriously considering firing my doctor.

Make sure you get your T3 checked cuz Armour has way more T3 than T4. I had to go off it for that reason. It made me absolutely sick. I developed a lesser known side effect of humming in my head, I hear it kinda in my left side. It's been really scary. I'm six weeks off of Armour and went back on levo (which I was always fine with) and I'm so glad. But I'm still having pretty terrible side effects from armour because it takes the body so long to adjust.

I have Hashimoto’s, again, after taking antibiotics in Dec for a UTI. My cycles used to be every 5 weeks. Started taking iodine in 2019, and my cycle jumped to 30 days. Stopped taking levothyroxine in March 2021. Started taking Dr Scheussler’s miners cell salts, last month, and my cycle jumped to 28 days; still taking the iodine. I told my endocrinologist that for the past month I have had trouble sleeping, I lost weight and I have loose stool. I was thinking that my dose is too high (I cut gluten and dairy out of my diet about 1.5 months ago, maybe my gut is healing and I started absorbing more of the medication, that’s my theory. I eat the same amount as before if not more because I am trying to gain weight) At the appointment she looked at my latest labs (before the diet change) and she said my TSH levels were in the right range but still a little high for my age group (38) and that she wanted to INCREASE my dose but since I didn’t want to lose weight she left it at 50mcg. Nearly all the symptoms I had before I started Levo ( expet for hair loss).Since I lowered the dose to only onet third of what I had before.I still get most of the symptoms except for rapid heartbeat. I'm still losing hair but less than before. There is no clear cut answer for me, and my blood test results have always been in a similar range. when I was on maximum dose T3 varied bewteen 12.5- 17, now is betweem 14-15.

I was put on thyroid medication over 30 years ago. I quit taking my thyroid medication on October 20, I feel like a different person. That thyroid pill destroyed my life. I am 63 years old and never been in a relationship. I blame my impotency for that, but after quitting my thyroid medication, I have gained some of my sexual function back. No one liked me, I was irritable all the time. I had a very hard time smiling. I had very stiff muscles. I trusted doctors, now I would not trust a doctor if my life depended on it. After getting off thyroid medication, I have found that my body is much calmer and the anziety is gone. I am actually shocked that my body survived it, someone up there likes me. I do have a story to tell. You know what the strange thing is, I do not have any of the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Depending on what else is going on with brain & body, the same test results may not mean the same results from person to person. When i first needed thyroid medication after radiation treatments, my TSH was only somewhat elevated but i was falling on the floor walking from my bedroom to the kitchen. Years out from that, i don't need so much.

I have has lifelong struggle with my bowels, and at one point had brain fog because of extreme low b12 levels. I have lowered my dosage from 185 to 175 and am waiting for a test. Hello, thanks for the video. My thyroid was treated with an iodine pill on November 2021 to cancel my thyroid, because it was to high. Now , the doctor say is normal. However, I am only 4'11", I was 115Lb. Now I am 128 Lb, my feet hurt so bad, I cant walk long distance any more, and I am very frustrated because I eat a very healthy diet. Do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat fast foods, or sweets. I eat about 1200 calories a day or 1500. and walk about 15000 steps. that's it, I can't walk any longer any more , my feet hurt so much at the end of the day. This weight gaining happened in the pats 3 months and I started taking levoxyl 0.075 MG for the past 2 months. My doctor do not want to increase my dose. I am afraid I am going to continue gaining 4 Lb's a month; and it will be very difficult for me to loos it, not to mention my feet are killing me. What should I do?. Thanks for your time.

well, everyone is different. I have Hashimoto's and my thyroid goes up and down....ALOT. Especially have to up the dosage during winter months, I have no idea why. I can tell when I need to lower, I get shaky mostly. But if my does is too low for me, I get easily fatgued, joint pain and muscle weakness and no energy. Just going up the stiars causes me to lose my breath, hypotension and th elist goes one. It's been a crazxy balancing act since I was finally diagnosed in 08. Prior to that, I could fall out any time any place, just collapse and had to lay on the floor before I would fall and blackout. ER trips countless....

There are HUGE gaps in the number of levo like100,125, 165 there should be some marked that is closer so that it is not always either too high or too low ..it is always changing ...I have had had Hashimotos for 28 years... Read the actual package insert! I had the side effects as a Thyroidectomy patient my Endo had me on 150mcg for years. I almost had a heart attack and defined had hypercalcuria both are known side effects listed in the insert. I went off Synthroid and am now on Armour. By the 3rd week I turned a corner and felt the best I had since my surgery 8 yrs ago. A friend of my husband’s had an actual heart attack at 175mcg. People should pay attention to the palps. I’m seeing a cardiologist now because of being overdosed. Fckn pisses me off.

Had a complete thyroidectomy. Left some tissue in because it was too close to nerves. Started me at 100 mcg. My body went beserk shaking and like electricity shooting threw my body. They told me to stop for a week and then resume it. Still ill. Put it down to 88 mcgs. Still ill. Moved it to 50mcgs. Some symptoms improved but I feel like I’m taking poison everyday. My blood work shows I’m in the normal range but I feel ill all over. I’m considering changing to synthroid. I was hyperthyroid for years and on methimazole and had footers and nodules biopsies. No cancer. Them 1 year ago May I became very ill and they kept telling me I was in the normal range and couldn’t do radioactive ablation cuz it wouldn’t work. I had had enough of constant diarrhea, heat and sweating, heart palpitations, anxiety and them telling me to see a psychiatrist. I did and they told me it was my thyroid and I made the courageous decision to have surgery. When they got it out it was massive and weighed 65 grams which is huge. However the tissue they had to leave it I am still producing some of my own hormone along with the levothyroxine. I’m so sick I can’t function and have gained so much weight. I’ve changed endocrinologists but no answers. Don’t know how much longer I can stand this. It’s been 8 months since my surgery and on anti anxiety meds that sometimes work. Please help

I have Graves’ disease. The funny thing is that I was hypo thyroid , before that. All of the symptoms you talked about have been felt at one point or another. When they were testing my thyroid the signs were there that I had Graves but they didn’t think the tests were accurate, because I didn’t present with the visible signs. At rest my heart beat was 108 at rest and I could go outside in thirty degree temperatures with out a coat on but other than those signs I acted like someone with low thyroid. They keep tabs on my thyroid numbers and have slowly reduced the dose. What do you think the best thyroid med. is the least harmful. Right now my heart rate is usually below 60.

I have been taking thyroid meds since my youngest daughter was born almost 26 years ago, recently my thyroid meds have been too high according to my new PA that has been testing she lowered me from 100 to .88 and still tested too high after 3 months and now she lowered it again to .75. I am 58 years old had alot of the symptoms you stated above recently. We are going to test again in 3 months. I took Iodine sea kelp liquid years ago and thought about taking it again. but don't want to mess anything up until we get it regulated when I did take it I lost alot of weight went from 168- to about 118 in about 6 months. and that was over 7 years ago, I weigh around 145 now and would like to be around 125. What is your thoughts on Iodine and I have always taken Synthroid not the generic equilivant but each time they try to give me the generic at my pharmacy, I have heard stories how that sometimes it will mess up your thyroid do you recommend the generic after being on Synthroid for over 26 years. thanks for this video and reading this and I would love your opinion.

I have exactly the opposite as if my dose is too low, if I try to lower my dose I can't stay awake, gain weight and have brain fog. My endo won't consider treating me differently and says he will lower my dose without trying to find out why I'm this way. I'm from the UK .

I am near 85 disgnosed Hypo in 1981aged42 when in coma have been fine since was on 400mg daily until 30 years ago now on 275 mg my BP 125 68 PR 56 cycle 5 miles dailyand work large garden i rest my case need the dose to supplement Pituatery gland never a health in 40 plus years when i lived in France retired. I'm a caregiver for a woman who has just about every side effect possible from anything; she wonders what "it" is that makes her feel so weak. However, I don't believe it's an "it;" it may be all the effects of meds she takes. Currently, since major surgery for shoulder replacement last fall, she has felt worse and has nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhea, etc. But she still has to get off the oxycodene, now 15 mg, 1 to 2 daily. She is addicted to this; tried stopping it suddenly and had withdrawal symptoms immediately, so we have to wean this away. Her diabetic numbers are low enough that her doctor told her stop the Trulicity. She has 23 stents; she stopped taking the statin last week. Recently, PC suggested new med, an injection, to bring her cholesterol to zero. I wanted to use so many ! Marks here! Anyway, as you can tell from just this, she deals with a lot. She recently stopped some kind of infusion; she experienced such bad side effects the last few times. She is a cancer and covid (2×!) Survivor at 70 years old. Unless she could get off all these meds, how do we know what contributes to her daily symptoms which prevent her from getting needed nutirion???

My GP reduced my levothyroxine 100mg to 75mg. Then my cholesterol also were high. Im an active person and very careful with my diet i dont know what to do. He put me on statin which made me feeling horrible. I stopped it. I dont know what to do now. GP wont get it. They just give u a pill.
