I think it's important to recognize that this was initially broadcast on TV - now that we have streaming, and you can binge the series, it seems unneccesary, but when it aired it had been a long time since people had seen the original episode. Heck, many viewers hadn't even seen it before. So the long recap was kind of important when it first aired
@klopferator29 күн бұрын
Well, torrents were a thing back then, and I'm sure there were some reruns in the 11 months between the two episodes. And if you believe American reality shows you could get the impression American viewers all have dementia. After each commercial break there's a two minute recap of what happened before. And there are a lot of commercial breaks.
@Londronable29 күн бұрын
@@klopferator I began noticing the entire repeating as a kid here in Belgium because of much less breaks the 2 sides are stitched together. So X happens. They repeat that X happens, right after another.

@klopferator29 күн бұрын
@@abjectlyterrible I know that this is the justification the networks give for that practice, but other countries have commercial breaks as well, and we keep the recaps to under 15 seconds (if we have any at all), which makes me think American networks believe their audience is retarded and wouldn't figure out what happens if nobody spells it out for them.

Your story at around the 30 minute mark hits home for me, since I got fired from my last job over my reaction to a cook's ego. I was managing at a chain restaurant, been there for 8 years. They sent me to a different store to manage for a couple days because one of their managers was on leave. I was on the last day doing expo. I'm getting stuff out and somehow or another an order of wings disappeared. Somebody took it to the wrong table or something. Point is, it got made but didn't get where it was going. I called for a remake. Guy said he made it. I said, "yes, but the table didn't get it, I need it remade". He made some comment about how could that happen when have an expo. Couple minutes go by, he doesn't remake it, I call for it again. Same exact conversation. Literally a repeat of the first. Now remember, I'm a manager. Third time I call for it, he says it got made and how could I need it remade when I'm supposed to be the expo. Now I made a mistake and forgot this wasn't *my* kitchen, and these folks weren't team. I said, "How about you stop bitchin' and make what I tell you"? He went *off*. He went on a major rant about being called a bitch and all sorts of macho, masculine bullshit. Long story short, I apologized, wrote an incident report and went home. Two days later, at my regular store, they told me I was fired. After 8 years. After working up from host to manager.

The reason I left a job at a restaurant once was because of an ego thing. I was going from prep cook to being trained to manage supplies so I had to give the order to make some extra sauce since we had too much; the prep cook in charge of sauces refused and things got heated; there was a meeting; a week later i stopped wanting to work there and i left. I am confident in saying that the prep cook did not like that i was being put in a position "above" (I don't see it that way) him when i had worked there far less than him. I also believe he thought I was getting that position because of some kind of favoritism.

Alicia, as others have mentioned, this goes even further than what the follow-up has shown. If you ever decide to do an extreme deep dive, there's a LOT more to these two than what many may ever know or have ever known in the past. If it's true, Samy may have been barred from further entry into the USA, Amy herself had served a short bit of time in prison for fraud, among many other things that the show hasn't ever either known about or that had come up long after. I used to think these sort of people are just exaggurated for the sake of tv. But then my sister told me couple of stories with supervisors she had to work with in restaraunt business, so safe to say there are people who are just as delusional as Amy.

I remember this shit when it came out. I wanted to do nothing more than book a plane ticket, poach all their staff, and start my own restaurant. ...Then I remembered I was a broke high school student. But hey, dreams!

Man the stuff at 48:00 hits really hard. When we and my wife had our child, we lived away from family and any support people outside of coworkers. Naturally we screwed up a lot. And I'm a typical guy, I forget things and do things wrong. But every day I would hear about it, every day I would feel like shit, and I've never been that depressed and felt so worthless. It wasn't my wife's fault either, these were legitimate things I was screwing up. But one of the things we learned through therapy (highly encourage for anyone) boils down to what you said. They screwed up, just remind them but don't make them feel bad. It's made a world of difference. Turns out I did the same thing too sometimes and didn't realize, my wife just has thicker skin apparently.

I have not been to a restaurant in years (stroke a few years back), but when I was going I would not only tip the wait staff, but would also tip the cooks on occasion. But there was one time when I did not tip my waiter. In that instance, I explained to him exactly why he would not be receiving a tip. I in no way berated him or try to talk down to him, but simply stated facts in the hope that he would try to improve in the future.

The reason he made the cat food comment was because of her fur babes and her cat talking so it fits.😂

As excited as I was for the follow-up, it really feels like they are stretching what little extra material and info they had to fill an episode. Seeing Mrs Crazy Eyes again is a trip, though.

They should have a video of Amy playing at schools with the words "Don't do cocaine, you'll end up like this." Cause you know she was just skiing down does slopes when the camera wasn't on her. Her parents must feel so much shame knowing they set her loose on the world.
