it's pretty unlikely, because Mama Cheri is UK, Alicia's watching US Kitchen Nightmares for the drama.

@@UltimateGamerCCbut there’s plenty drama in the UK version, it’s just not edited with unnecessary tense music and flashy shots, the Le Deck episode was so full of drama that dealing with that owner was the reason Gordon canceled both the UK and US versions of the series and only came back to the series in 2023, the Runaway Girl episode has a delusional owner to the point that his best friend drills into him far harsher than Gordon has ever been even in Boiling Point, twice

It's because the dad is the Trustee. He has a fiduciary duty to his kid (the person the trust is meant for) and he is "buying the restaurant on David's behalf" therefore it's on the up-and-up in the dad's head. I'd sue for breach of fiduciary duty for that in particular.

35:48 he also didn't specify WHAT he was "apologizing" for. That's a common narc tactic when they do fake apologies. They'll be like "I'm sorry for what I did, I'm sorry for EVERYTHING, I've been so horrible to you I apologize I'm such a bad person" etc., but never get SPECIFIC. "I apologize for stealing $250K of your inheritance to open up this restaurant without your consent behind your back. That was wrong and for that I'm sorry," would have been INFINITELY better than a blanket "I apologize to you both for being wrong" or whatever without getting SPECIFIC on WHAT he did that was wrong. Because a genuine apology comes with it accountability, and that's kryptonite to them.

The only thing im gonna say about David is that he was having a really bad day. Since lunch he had to cook something that he knew it was not gonna be good (And yeah, he fucked up the order too) and got his head bitten by Ramsay until he explained that those were not his recipes. Then when he actually cooked something good both owners were trying to still throw him under the bus. Then at night I believe Danny went with a mentality that nothing he could do was wrong and when david was trying to make sense of the fucked ticketing system he got undermined by Daniel twice: First when he was explaining to gordon about how is it bad and next when he said that he will take charge of it (Implying that David was not smart enough to do it). After that he knew he was fucking up and the pressure became too great. After that another issue with his ticketing system where he got the kitchen confused as at this point they were losing control about where the food was going and he bit the head off the other chef and David basically stood up for him and i think that was the line in the sand for David. It was not ok for him to threaten to beat him up and it was warranted to be fired but the whole situation was fucked and at that point he really seemed to be the only one in control (Up to before he threatened) and know what he was doing.

La Galleria 33 is another really funny one as well with two owners that are basically an unintentional comedy act the entire time. Both episodes are quite wholesome, not restaurants run by lunatics but rather just genuinely lost people that need help. Neither of them have a *meat guy,* but still prime material.

Alan died on 2020 by a heart attack, the place didnt last, changed owners, staff, kind of food, it was like a hot potato untill it was mushy and landed on someone's hands. After Kitchen nightmares, the menu and kitchen staff at Burger Kitchen in LA were changed numerous times. In August 2011 the restaurant is said to have changed ownership. By October 2011 there was a rebranding, a new, smaller menu, a new team of Chefs. There was also new management in place. Yelp reviews continued to be negative. Customers reported that none of the burgers that Gordon had created were on the menu. The POS system installed as part of the revamp was also no longer used to take orders. Burgers were still not cooked as ordered and service was very slow. Burger Kitchen closed in February 2012. There was a for lease sign at the restaurant in mid January and the restaurant was shuttered in February. There is the belief that the Burger Kitchen episode was staged. Burger Kitchen was exposed in a blog post. Luigi's opened in it's space just a few weeks after they closed but this also later closed. Jaffaa Middle Eastern restaurant is now in it's place. Alan Saffron died in April 2020 after a heart attack.

Some people just don't deserve to be forgiven, especially if they feel no remorse. I get what Gordon is saying, but this isn't a case of the son needing to learn the lesson here, he did nothing wrong in that relationship, it was the father that needed to change.
@AliceBunny05
@AliceBunny05 Ай бұрын
yes, it is not always necessary to forgive people. because some people truly do things that are unforgivable, that is an unavoidable truth that most people will learn through their life. without knowing the full picture, nobody but yourself can really tell you which is the better option. especially regarding people who do not feel genuine remorse and have done terrible things, extremely difficult and arguably not deserving of forgiveness. but even if they do feel remorse, you do not need to forgive them to move on. you can still be angry about what someone did to you, but not let it rule your life and and influence your subconscious actions. that is the real truth, you can still be angry about how someone treated you or someone you love, while moving on and processing those feelings and that hurt. the anger (and even resentment) may linger depending on how much they really hurt you, but if you have done the work to make sure those emotional wounds are not subconsciously influencing your actions and the way you think of yourself and the world, that anger is okay. for some people, letting themselves have the anger is actually healthier. many people delude themselves for extended periods of their life into believing they had a good parent, even when they did not. because they feel the deeply buried need to defend them, an instinctive reaction but not not one based in reality. a lot of people actually need to learn to let go of defending someone who had a duty to protect them, and nurture them, and treat them well and make good decisions for them. this is the subtype of all those people who grew up being hit and go on to say it's a perfectly reasonable way to discipline a child. they've normalized this because it is far less painful to do that than to confront that maybe, their parents just really sucked at discipline and did not have as much empathy for their child as they should have. this does not change the reality (proven by numerous peer reviewed scientific studies) that this type of "discipline" leads to many adverse affects in adulthood, one of them being... that too many adults believe it's in any way okay to physically hurt and assault a child.

That part about Daniel being happy seeing his dad showing some genuine emotion, I felt that. My mom is pretty similar to that, and it's something I only noticed recently. I cut contact with her about 15 years ago because she wasn't a good mother. I couldn't rely on her and she gaslighted me about those topics, also we just didn't have much of a connection. After my dad died this year I decided to reach out to her, partially because it became clear that the stuff with her was eating me from the inside. I now see that she wasn't malicious. She's broken, barely able to show genuine emotions and especially not empathy. I'm not angry about her anymore, I only feel pity. As to your point about not forcing yourself to forgive people I totally agree. The important part for me was processing the past in a more healthy way. My mom isn't part of my life again, I had two calls with her on that day and that was it.

This family is nuts, mostly due to the parents. Alan Saffron the father, had two sons David and Daniel (the "partner" in this resturant). Daniel eventually sued Alan in 2013, but ended up settling out of court, cause he didn't want to damage his own family (though he could've actually even pushed criminal charges on his dad). Daniel left and married Wendy. I wish them both all the best. The father, Alan, passed away in 2020 from a heart attack. His other son David (aka: Master D), ran a strip club, but was prosecuted for various financial crimes and fraud.

While i second Mama Sheri suggestions as a nice pallet cleanse, if you’re looking for some more spicy drama, Mill Street Bistro is just *chefs kiss* (It’s also less genuinely heartbreaking, more similar to ABC in that it’s more about watching the owner implode under their own hubris)

I had a father like this just pure gas light and treating like shit, I even worked for him for how many years and never got a salary, if I wanted something, that was my pay. I even had a 20 minute audio that I recorded for my defense that I lost of him abusing mentally of me. He was a warlock of words and his least favorite word was no. My mom was an angel but if she had to put things in order, she could put on the pants and be tough, but father was the force. Mom died in 2017 and my brother left the house, so I was the only one there to help him because he was disabled but he took advantage and I became a bubble kid, I dont know how the world works until I was 25 when dad passed away in 2021 and after he died, I didnt have 1 cent to pay anything, nothing. And what was from my father, her widow took it taking advantage that the only person that care (me) was in a painful grieving and depressed. Now, I am 28, I got a disability pension because I am so fucked up mentality, that just now, 3 years later, I can start resetting life and live freely of his bullshit.

I appreciate Alicia's point at the end about forgiveness. For me, I know I need to accept and move on from some shit that happened, and that will mean going back and talking to them eventually. But when I do, it won't be that baptist bullshit "I forgive everything and let's just go back to being a big happy family". It'll have to be "no, you did this and this and this, and it had this effect on me, and that's NOT OK, that was fucked up." And if they can't deal with that and show real change, then no, I shouldn't have them back in my life.

just throwing a comment into here to feed the algorithm, before getting into the meat of the episode. You can see three generations of abuse in this restaurant. Starting with the grandfather who was a mobster, then the parents who are just absolute assholes but not actually murderous. Then you have Daniel who seems to mostly be a decent guy but is lashing out due to being put into such a pressure cooker.

i dont know how the whole "suing the dad" thing went down, but what i would guess happened is the restaurant went to shit and they decide to shut it down, and daniel said "alright, since the investment you forced me into has fallen through and i can no longer use its income to recoup, i want the money back" they said no, either because they didnt have it or because he really wasnt an owner on paper, and then he sued.

I generally HATE booths. You can't properly adjust how far you sit from the table, if the tables move at all, without making someone else with you uncomfortable. If you have to get out you gotta make people stand up. It's claustrophobic. Sometimes bigger guys barely fit at all, and jam up other people with them. I'd take a bench seat over a booth anyday.

I agree that Daniel acts like a child bit that's because these kinda parents make it so, they do all they can to stunt you however they can. Cause if you grow up then you can fight back or leave, learn how the world works can't cause then you'll be independent self reliant. Its the same how governments want us, you can't control the informed.
