Vintage Stool Restoration

Metal leg, rusty stool restoration. I found these stools in a friend's lathe workshop. They are very robust and carry the traces of years. I tried to restore them without destroying their scars.

Awesome! I truly thought that those stools were too far gone to save, especially with that one warped corner! Putting the boards in the water surprised me, but seeing how you could get all that dirt and paint off was mind-blowing! I also thought that using your little pile of sanding dust as filler was genius! I was so surprised to find out the base was metal; and I would have not tried to match the "color" bc wood has the beautiful variation of the grain, whereas the paint on metal lacks that. A black paint on the metal base would be nice, I think. All in all, this was an outstanding job on 2 stools that I thought were beyond help or hope!!! Wow.

I much preferred them as they were, the colour and the patination. This is not a sympathetic restoration but a typical DIY job. A light touch is all they needed, not to mention you decimated their commercial value. Not impressed I'm afraid.

why you put the wood in water.For old wood is not good to put it to water.Mold can build up.You can sande it with the anglegrinder and the results would be the same if not better.Impregnator for wood would be better as a finish.

Really nice job. Those stools would work in so many types of homes... country, mid-century, contemporary. Too many people just throw away old things rather than bringing them back to life. The stories those stools could tell. Who knows what conversations they have overheard?

I guess three years ago you didn’t have paint stripper and a hand tool belt sander. I am an often watcher of this channel but this was a painfully bad how to video. The end result just is not up to you current standards. I’d take it down and find a better item to replace it.

Eh, not what I would have done, but I don't own them. Paint stripper rather than power sander, hand screwdriver rather than power tool, and original screws in original holes...

Lovely restoration. I also did not like the colour of the legs or the type of screw that were used..straight screws, not star, i think would have been in keeping with the age of the pieces. But good work, nice to watch...and beautiful cat 🐈

Look, if you want to replace a part, replace it, it doesn't concern me. But everything that you can recover in restoration and is intact is important. The nature of the restoration requires this. That's why I suggest you watch part replacement videos instead of restoration videos.

Начинать обдирку старого покрытия надо после разборки изделия - всё правильно . Деревяные детали первично обдирают циклями , потом наждачными материалами .

Hi, there is no need for metal filler. There is no need for a primer in this paint, it is a paint with direct metal/rust feature.
