Restoration a very old 15 gear reducer | Reuse antique gearboxes | Restored rusted transmission box
I got this gearbox. It is very old and rusty. I do not know its history. But I think it was made in 1975. Based on the time stamp on the speed reducer . Restoration a very old gear reducer is a big challenge. There are many mistakes in the project, please let us know in the comments. Wish you a good day . Please support us at: / @therestoration2r878

Just my tiny advice. If restoring a shaft diameter for a gear box never weld it. For sure the shaft will break if used. The shaft's torque strength will be reduced to 50% (my best guess) because the shaft is hardened or tempered by the heat and the steel looses its heat treatment. If the wear is just a bit better to turned it in a lathe and refinish it to a smaller diameter and torque strength is not affected much. If restoration is for a museum or collection where the machine will not run, then it is ok to weld it like he did.

@@tfahad2051 Only thing he did wrong was not sandblasting it to clean metal again. Or at the very LEAST, remove as much of the heavy stuff with a wire wheel as possible and follow it with a few good coats of rust converter, If he had done that, i'm sure it would be just fine for a museum, or occasional usage.

That's like a secondary gear box to help reduce speed you'd have the two sticks in a truck equipped with this and sometimes 3 sticks depending the rig, but technology replaced all that.

@@LOREGUINNESS if want to install the bearing onto a shaft, and it’s tight fit, bearing should be heated or cold the shaft. Don’t use the hammer, it will damage the bearing or shaft.

All things considered, this gearbox looks to be quite well maintained. Yes it’s been sitting somewhere for a long time but considering most threads were ok and the thing was lubricated inside was pretty impressive considering the age and external rust. I would love to have a business restoring things, because as you can see from this video it must be pretty much non existent to be beyond repair, I mean look how this turned out!

Soooo many negative comments, have any of you oxygen wasters ever tried doing what he is doing. I overhaul auto's and manual gearboxes and diffs for my career and I know how damn frustrating it is finding parts or getting the mongrels apart good on him for doing this even if it isn't to keyboard warrior specs. Keep up the good work

"...doing what he is doing"? You mean taking a piece of heavily rusted equipment that has obviously been submerged for some time, replacing items with substitutions he decides are okay without any regard to what the design limits of the device were originally set at, then re-selling it as "refurbished"? Yeah, I've never done that. I never will either. But that doesn't mean I can't spot fraud when I see it. IMHO, the "oxygen wasters" are the ones defending this practice.

If you have a stuck broken pully like that ever again, just take a cut off wheel and make a cut almost all the way through. Then a good wack with a chisel and it will split. This works well on brake rotors also. Also, cast iron doesn't cut like steel w a torch.
