The proper way to do it wasn’t shown. A few 12 penny toe nails in the top will do fine, but for the bottom you’ll want to get metal plates secured with concrete anchors. That will keep your post off the ground, preventing water absorption and reducing the risk of termite infestation along with securing the post so that it won’t kick out of someone bumps it or leans on it

Shouldn't he have used a metal post base to keep the lumber off the concrete? Otherwise over time, the lumber will rot from water wicking upwards.

We do live in a make believe world of cosmetics. I am glad that St Paul's cathedral and Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey did not use this technique. Well as they say, a bit of putty and a coat of paint make the devil look like a saint. I really do not know what to say.............beauty it is all in the mind of the observer. Many women present themselves using the same philosophy shown in this video.

beauty is skin deep. it would be great, if you can afford to hire stonemasons to carve marble columns for your manor house, but most people can't afford that, but still wants to make their posts look nicer.
