I saw a video where instead of O.S.B. a guy put cement board on a self supporting pressure-treated frame work. What do you think of that? I think a problem would be if there is a lot of exposure the cement board would not keep the wood dry, but it seemed to make sense in a way. I'd want a method that did not include sheathing and also included a moisture barrier.

Planning on doing this on the exterior of our house, but will use something besides OSB.

Living in the Pacific Northwest, how would I mitigate water damage and rot? I'm guessing treat the wood with a water sealer? I bought a house and I'm not sure what wood the posts are made of, my guess is they are pine. Thank you for the video and for any advice.

They use treated wood post all the time

I think to be safe, you can use water vapor wraps around the OSB board before installing this stone

Use pressure treated wood and/or 15lb roofing paper is ideal.

Redguard...two coats...on all wood surfaces inside and out. Without a doubt, water will get in. Redguard will slow the rot process.

I need faux tabby concrete like was used in historical coastal homes, especially in the south. It was mixed with seashells. Suggestions?

IMO, Osb board will eventually get damp from air moisture, and swell and rot. Looks good at first though

Looks great and the nice thing with that OSB board you didn’t bother wrapping with some kind of water proof membrane it’s going to rot out in a few years and you get to have fun all over again

A rachet strap or a couple rubber bungis works good to hold all four sides together before securing with screws

You have to remember, most home builders/ contractors these days dont care about longevity. Its get it done quick, making it good as fast as possible, and start the next one. A pig with lipstick on.
