thanks so much for posting this. I has wondered for ages what a fusee looks like for real and how to work on them. Now I see.

Excellent watch restoration. I sure can’t wait when my pocket watch arrives. It so happens is from the same date as this watch.

Did You ever think about using denture cleaner on the dial ? It could hide a lot of the green cracks .

In the title it says London but the back of the watch indicates Cork, presumably Ireland?

Very interesting video, so interesting to see how old watches were literally hand-made. Are you sure, though, it's a London watch? At 4:10 it seems to show a signature William R.... , Cork. Cork was a well known centre for watch making in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Perhaps the case has a London hallmark? I'd love to find out more.

At the bottom of the watch is the symbol of the lion, representing the city of London, you can see it in the video👍

@@watchrestorationchannel1061The lion passant represents the assay office jurisdiction, it covered England. Scotland, Wales and Ireland had their own assay marks. If the case was made in London that doesn't necessarily mean the movement was if it was like the US at the time.

Hey - you forgot to make the missing seconds pinion for the centre seconds hand - did you know?

There is a city of manufacture symbol, a letter indicating the date of manufacture (of the case), a duty stamp (profile of the king) and a stamp for Sterling Silver (the standing lion). One or more may be missing.

This is probably a very rare pocket watch as it was a centre seconds pocket watch, hence the bizarre layout underneath the dial. I think you should try to make the missing centre seconds wheel and hand. If you can't do that, maybe you should adress someone who can. It's a pity such a unique watch not being complete.

Complete and utter nonsense. The only wheels that were *ever* under that dial are the hour and minute wheels. There isn’t even a function for a second hand- it’s a typical fusee watch of its period. Although centre second chronographs were being made for the very rich in the late-19th century, standard central second watches weren’t even produced in watches until the 1910s, and standardised by Zenith in 1948, long LONG after the sub-second had been in use in pocket watches. Either way, this watch absolutely does not, nor did it ever have, a seconds function.

@TodayFreedom The oldest watches with a seconds hand that I have seen were all from the 1900s. It was strange to me too, I can't imagine verge watches with seconds hand.
@ΝικολαςΧελιδωνης9 ай бұрын
@@TodayFreedom first of all, I think you could be a bit more polite. Second, centre second pocket watches existed long time before 1900. Please search Harrison chronometer and you will observe it has centre seconds ,as far as i remember.
