Step by step I rebuild this 1965 Velosolex. On the list today, the old bell that needed definitely tender loving care. When working, the bell had a double bell function and sent out, due to the 80m diameter, a fantastic sound.
Well, but not anymore! This bell is completely corroded while pieces are missing. At first, I had to figure out how the bell worked in the good old times with all the pieces installed. After I got to know that, I started manufacturing the pieces. The geometry of the main lever had to be just right, to make the clapper travel the right distance and angles and therefore generate the double sound.
After glass bead blasting all the pieces, I gave the main parts away for professional chroming. The little tiny pieces were blued by myself for best corrosion prevention.
Join me to see the bell shine again. That little tiny piece of history conjured up a laough in my workshop. Fantastic how simple and fascinating good old technology can be.
Enjoy the journey and thanks for watching.
