Hello my friends! :)
In this video I will show you the restoration project of an original Canadian WW2 MKII Brodie helmet from 1942!
A couple years ago I bought a bunch or WW2 items for a good price.
All the items came from a wet basement, and this MKII helmet was included.
After having this helmet as a display piece for a couple years, I decided now was the time to bring it back to life!
I hope you enjoy the video!

Such a simple design, but truly iconic, when someone is tasked to think of an "army helmet", this is one of the first things they think of with the M1.

I pull the spray nozzles off of empty cans that worked well when I used them. You can put them in a jar of solvent to soak for a while then blow them out with a 'canned air' duster. Use the skinny red straw that comes with the duster. If I run into a can of paint with a nozzle that acts up, I switch nozzles out until one functions the way I want. Nozzles can have different spray patterns, keep a bunch handy. It's saved me grief a few times. Oh, and shaking the can isn't the problem, it's the fit of those nozzles. I have had problems with those myself several times. Pro 🤥 Tip: Some nozzles are stemmed and fit into the paint can, some are stemless and the can's stem fits into the base of the nozzle. Keep a variety of nozzles!

just some advice on using spray paint: instead of shaking it while spraying and almost putting the entire coat in one go, try to go in lines from left to right (or the other way around) on a distance of 20cm. Very light first coat and do like 3 or 4 coats. This will give a way better endresult

Nick incase you didn't already, clear the nozzle by holding the cans upside down and spray untill the ''mist'' is clean after you're done :) Will prevent clogging in the future. Love your channel! Stay awesome! Btw obviously the nozzles have to be free of gunk, otherwise spraying upside down won't work either

Love restoration videos! I also love any video that had to do with Canada in WW2! Unfortunately compared to others, Canada doesn’t receive as much attention as it should. Aside from the Netherlands, who gives us 20,000 flowers annually (since 1945, when they gave us 100,000) as thanks for the liberation and the sheltering of Princess Julianna in Ottawa during WW2! I have a Canadian helmet stamped “C.L/C. 1942”, which indicates it was manufactured by Canadian Motor Lamp Co. in Windsor, Ontario, who made them from 1940-1943. What I love about Canadian helmets (and any for the matter) is that there are so many different ones to collect. I find the markings on GSW helmets to be interesting especially, I love the different markings for different departments. Like “D.P. & H.” is the Department of Pensions and Health. Unfortunately I find Canadian helmets to be often way overpriced. No way should anyone ever be selling a lone shell without even a chinstrap for $150. Maybe if it had some flash often not seen, but for a plain C.L/C. shell that’s way too overpriced. Luckily I got my complete helmet with the multicoloured net for cheaper than that, and it comes with a complete, unbroken chinstrap. Another great video Nick! Keep up the great work!

I remember as a kid in the 1970s the surplus store used to sell the empty unfinished british helmet shells for a dollar, they were black, no liner or straps, just empty shells. American M1 shells were $3.00, German helmets were about $40.00, and italian ones were $15.00. i dont think i saw japanese ones or russian, or any others back then, but, remember, in the 70s, this stuff was really surplus, it wasnt that old, there were millions if em out there, as everybodys dad brought them home from europe after the war... I think my uncle had his jeep cap into the 1980s hanging on a doorknob!
