Amazing craftwork! When I was 12 yo, I didn’t have enough money to buy a new pair of baseball cleats so I found a used pair at a thrift shop and a shoe repairman fixed them up for me for about 3 bucks. This was a long time ago. Wore them for two seasons. Love the video and thanks for posting!!

Great question. Would anything actually jond separated leather's fibres once surface split/cut/worn away creating separation? Also, would split areas hold without splitting at same spot?

What glue are you using that you don't need to let it sit to cure? Any glue I use, renia, master, barge - they all need to sit for at least 5 minutes to cure before sticking. Wonderful job!
@davidsonsshoerepair2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? When I wet glue? All contact adhesives can be wet glued also. They will cure in a few minutes. But if you want the contact function you need to let the surfaces dry first. All jobs where you need to be able to move the parts around, I wet glue, like heel linings and insoles.
@davidsonsshoerepair2 жыл бұрын
My neoprene glue is Ortec btw.
@nickp31732 жыл бұрын
@@davidsonsshoerepair Very interesting, I did not know that. So when i'm using barge cement I can wet glue it? I do restorations on mostly sneakers. I was always taught to let both sides cure before sticking together. Instructions says the same too. Otherwise you won't get a proper bond. I'll have to experiment with this then.
@nickp31732 жыл бұрын
@@davidsonsshoerepair I was referring to contact cement glue for glueing soles on etc. Looked like you had a lot of different types of glues at work there. I love that little red glue canister that applies it for you. I use Renia too but not the ortec version.
@davidsonsshoerepair2 жыл бұрын
@@nickp3173 you usually want the contact function on soles and heels. And the instructions on a contact adhesive should be on how to use the contact function. But yeah, it works just as good when wet glueing. Then you can adjust the pieces you're glueing. I use a bunch of different adhesives depending on the job, but the neoprene based contact Renia Ortec is the one I use most, on leather and rubber.

is it necessary to smooth the bumps on the upper front part?
@davidsonsshoerepair2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? Which bumps? The creases? Yes. The shoes looks better if I straighten them out. And it will be easier to nourish the leather. Same reason as why you should use shoe trees.

Das Problem bei der ganzen Sache, dürfte der Reparaturpreis sein.
@davidsonsshoerepair Жыл бұрын
A replacement pair from Crockett & Jones would cost about 660 euros. The repair costs ca 380-400 euros. Simple math. And we know nothing about the sentimental value the shoes has to the customer. I have often made restorations for more than a new pair would cost.
@alierem4266 Жыл бұрын
Well, repairers' good skills are available when/where needed. Choice to pay or not is a separate matter. Docwe not all have different likes and dislikes?
