'Restoration Of Peace In All Haiti' The Goal Says UN Chief On Presence Of Kenyan Police Contingent

The head of the UN Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to curb gang violence and ensure democratic elections.
Godfrey Otunga, head of the United Nations Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti, said the goal was to restore peace to the country.
Hundreds of deployed Kenyan police officers are working to weaken the gangs’ hold, which has intensified since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021. The situation worsened in February when gangs launched coordinated attacks on government infrastructure, leading Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign in April.
