Never knew that you could repair a Gameboy that has probably been sitting in a mud puddle for either a few months or 5 minutes before you started recording by simply submerging it and all its electrical insides in a bin of soapy water and then attacking it with an extremely rough brush. Truly remarkable. (Edit: This comment is sarcastic. I know it's fake, we all know it's fake. Please stop lambasting me in the replies for being stupid.)

You’d be surprised how resilient the old game boys are. To be honest as long as there’s no batteries in the system or other power source you can safely dump the circuit boards in soapy water to clean them without fear of them shorting out. Just make sure you fully dry the boards before you put the batteries back in. Most of the time you can clean the boards with rubbing alcohol, but when the system has been submerged for so long it’s sometimes best to just full on water bath the thing. I don’t think this was in the puddle for only 5 minutes because the outer shell itself and inner “heat shield” and the screen sponge had some pretty decent water logging going on. Not something that usually forms on plastics in 5 minutes or relatively fast. He was sanding it off after the water bath. He didn’t need to repaint the case, but he did just for a better look than the residual water logging. I’m not surprised that it ended up working fine in the end. You should check out some other Gameboy restoration videos. Some are pretty narly lol. Just giving some insight into this. I don’t believe the guy planted the Gameboy there the morning of the video. If anything this is a pretty good example of how much trauma these Gameboys can go through.
Lots of places in the world are like this, and people view it as normal. Work isn't just "cleaning" the world, but teaching people to stop littering. Where I am from, Dominican Republic, it feels impossible to get some (I'll call them districts, can't remember the right word) districts clean, and it's because of a three way problem. Commonfolk ignorance, commonfolk unwillingness and a lack of law enforcement. Commonfolk ignorance would be solved if people were willing to learn, and people would learn if there was law enforcement. People enforcing law are common folk (a police officer is a guy with a gun that works for the government), and they ignorant, unwilling, or both. I wish that people of this country weren't as stubborn and the government wasn't as shy to make things right. People are fearing change. My field of work is neither being a politician nor do I have time for cleaning anybodyelse's mess, my dream isn't to lead the masses to clean the place, but I do wish that something is done, and if somebody needs my cooperation, I will.
It's amazing how that display is working perfectly after being submerged in soapy water and scrubbed with a rough brush. There are no flaws on it. That's truly miraculous.

The fact that someone is filming him walk up to it and pick it up. This looks like an impoverished area where items like this being found would be extremely rare and anything of any possible value would be picked clean in a place like that. There are thousands of videos just like this on youtube and very popular to watch and very easy to stage. I've already said this, and it's a very risky thing to say. Imagine you are in an island, and there is another island there. And you want to conquer it. And they are ruled by a leader. "Oh but they are disciplined, and they obey their leader. It's impossible to defeat them." Ah, then we will impose democracy on them. Democratic propaganda! We will promote the most democratic way. "Oh, but they also have incredible faith in God! They have such faith in God that they never abandon the front." Ah, then let's promote atheism. Church time is over. From now on, only night clubs. "Oh, but the youth are healthy and strong. They're in formidable shape. They are the way the Creator made them: in his image." Ok then, from now on McDonald's, Coca-Cola, drugs and alcohol. Let them be fat, old and undisciplined. We mush abolish military service. "Ah... yeah but the other thing is that they are homogenous. They are a single people, a single race. There is no ethnic chaos." Ok, then in whatever way, we must send them boats with blacks, Africans, Chinese. "But they have a lot of babies! 6 or 7 babies on average! They're happy to have large families!" Ok, from now on abortion, the pill. You have defeated that island now.

I'm gonna guess that the only original parts are the shell and the buttons. Can get all parts on Ali Express for less than $20 (except the motherboard). You try to avoid submerging any electronics in liquid. Step one should have been; Locate the screws. Step two, disassemble. step three, clean, only submerge non electronic parts. Step four, test individual parts. Five, replace faulty parts. Six, reassemble.

@@stephendowdican7589 Trust me, I know some things about this stuff. Most of what your talking about requires oxidation. If the item was burred in mud, it was not really getting the oxygen required to discolor the plastics or really anything. You would be amazed sometimes at how well preserved things can be under optimal conditions. Something of the right kind of mud actually is a really good preserving agent of plastics. Besides, plastics only change color with age under certain conditions and certain forms of plastic.

This is all really impressive and cool, but I must say...The spray paint looks terrible. I feel like this whole project would be completely perfect if you had either not painted it and left the imperfections of the plastic show from its former life, or used a better looking paint with a nice finish on it. The spray paint just looks cheep and tacky and sticky to the touch (I also hate red but that's obviously a personal opinion lol). But otherwise fantastic job!
