Regardless of what some are saying about the rust not being arrested, shaping that part by hand is incredibly difficult and bad ass. 👌 The end result looks nice, too.

I just watched this and let me just say I wish I could have been able to do as good job as this on our Town work trucks and big tandem dumps, like you said by the time they rot out more the trucks will have been replaced or kept as an old spare.There was nothing wrong with this fellows finished product,I’ve seen real s##t jobs done by regular body shops that just used filler!👍👌

Some of you may think that the job is not perfect due to rust not removed completely, but these trucks are work trucks so most likely, it will be in a scrap yard sooner than the metal will rot, so a fix like this works pretty good for the remaining of the trucks life.

@@JohnDoe-ml8ru my point is hes doing great for that piece of shit truck and the tools he had to work with. Do you even repair bro?
@@Lovenlife139 yeah. With only home Depot steel, a flux core welder and an angle grinder. The old rust is like cancer, you can't neutralize it. You gotta completely cut out the cancer, then use a template to transfer over to the sheet metal what you need to weld back in. You never just paste a piece of steel on top of the old metal.

That’s what raw metal looks like. Worse as you get to saltier climates. Iron will always rust it will never stand the test of time. You have to chemically treat it or encapsulate in paint. It’s really the thickness of the steel and the alloy that determine how long it will last. 1/2” plate steel may take 100 years to rust through in the same environment 1/32” will take 3 years. The rust is always there on microscopic levels

A lot of comments on the effectiveness of this repair and the price to replace a panel, etc. This repair will likely outlast the vehicle and was probably a dirt cheap repair. its a mig welder, close your eyes when you press the trigger til you release it. welders do it all day long when just putting small spot welds on to hold the metal in place..this guy was spot welding because metal is so thin, even lowest setting wood burn thru or warp the panel thats why you spot weld 1 side then another so metal cools and wont warp..continous welding requires a welding helmit or lens but spot welding closing your eyes wont hurt your eyes..ive done it for yrs

Very nice work except, that everywhere that you punched the metal to create the seems, will be a weak point for rust, because of the tooling marks, even though it was coated with sealer, but it's still a decent looking repair, that should last for quite a few years, good job !

I see a couple of major problems with what just happened!! Number one why didn’t he just find another truck bed or at least the whole left side and weld that back onto it as opposed to trying to reuse and fabricate a new skin? Second he welded after all those hours of effort, I guarantee it took a while. He did a really nice job for doing it all by hand, but then he turned around and weld it at all right back over the original skin that was corroded without treating it without cutting it away nothing. !!!😳😳😳 unfortunately, I can foresee the corrosion bubble right back through to the new skin he made because of the absence of cutting out the old oxidation galvanic corrosion is going to prevail here! And I’m gonna throw in one more here for III the time it took him to go through all that and repaint it. He could’ve swapped out the whole truck bed for less money and time that it took him to repair one section of the bed skin.!!!! I said again, kudos on his ability to make a good representation of the factory bed skin, his efforts would’ve been better suited for small patches, and replacements, rather than virtually half of the whole side of the truck,!!! Not too much logic there!!!
@HeadTurnNet2 жыл бұрын
I guess 1) he just didn’t know the fact the old rusty corrosion will eat thru the new sheet of metal, 2) a piece of sheet metal with some DIY cutting, welding, and spray paint will probably cost less than a used truck bed, I dunno, maybe in China it’s more cost-effective do it this way. Regardless, he was doing a pretty decent job hiding the rusty part, although the new paint job seems to have a lot of orange peel.
@franksmythe69692 жыл бұрын
I guess you missed the part where he covered the whole affected area with some sort of primer or rust encapsulating paint. Look at 2:38 again
