Ah yes! The annual trip to the scrapyard to get Dad a Christmas gift. I remember it so well. I remember the year I found an old lathe chuck, which I thought was the very thing. It was very rusty and seized up but I managed to to clean it up and and get it working like new. He was a chartered accountant by profession but his real passion was... well, okay, it was gardening but I thought this might awaken a desire for new horizons. Admittedly, he didn't have a lathe... in fact, he didn't know what a lathe chuck was 'til I explained it to him. I felt a new interest might help with his anxiety. He was a very anxious man. He was always saying to me "You know, Ron, I worry about you, I really do!" I think he was delighted with it. He didn't actually go as far as getting a lathe but he did enjoy using it as a door stop... well, except when he stubbed his toe against it. Then he used to swear at it. Nice restoration video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

Nope. It’s a counterbalance used in a factory. Takes some of the weight of a heavy tool so it’s easier to use with less fatigue. The adjustment is for the weight of the tool, from 4 to 9 kg. Probably needs to be calibrated now.

All that work and rattle can paint. Too bad a drop of gas, carb cleaner or diesel and it's ruined. It is expensive if you aren't set up for it already though.

Да это можно стерпеть, главное, не показаны отсчеты на эталонных грузах: малых - на быстрой зеленой шкале, и грузов больших - на внешней шкале, которую он просто стёр и не восстановил.

Впрочем, таль здесь для масштабирования на пружину больших грузов, а бегучая зеленая шкала дополняет отсчет. Вроде бы нужен счетчик оборотов для больших грузов.

He really should have done that. Think of it as a bungee connected between a heavy tool and your ceiling; the spring action of the cord compensates for the weight making it easy to maneuver or lift. But a bungee cord doesn't have constant pull. This contraption uses an internal wind-up spring and pulley system to maintain constant lifting force regardless of vertical position. They are commonly used in factories.

Unscrewing rusty bolts with an adjustable wrench is sadism. Did you just paint over the label? Of course, it seemed to me that the top hook went rusty for painting? Otherwise, this terrible crime deserves the Gulag.
