The thing i like about Jay's garage is that he doesn't just throw money at cars to get them done quickly. He has his mechanics take their time and it will be finished when they get around to it. No flipping cars for profit, just pure restoration with dedication. Just as I typed this he says that he's not "Overhaulin'" lol. Keep the videos coming jay! these project videos are just as interesting if not more because we see multiple cars in each video. That's something you could add when you cover a single car say like a the lotus, show us and explain other years and models of the lotus as well if you have them all in the same video. Just quick panning shots of the car as you talk would be great, you don't have to go into full history on the car just the little tidbits you already share is more than enough and interesting. Your editors already do some of that but more would be appreciated as well.

The restorations are why I follow this site. Anybody with a gullible banker can get ahold of the newest supercars, it takes commitment, or someone who should be committed, to have the resources and obsession to get this stuff done. I also like how Jay likes to keep cars looking stock, clean sleepers will always be cooler than a plain Jane car covered with high performance stickers.

Jay, many thanks for your being appreciative of Al Barns' (Barnes sp?) craftsmanship. It's an outstanding totem of the era. A thought: why not collaborate with the "transportation" students at LA's ArtCenter College of Design? Provide them a "brief" calling for visualizing a contemporary Austin Healy 100 four, or one of the Healey big sixes. A side bar per the Lotus Cortina. Before the Pinto was offered, Ford tried the bringing British Cortinas to America to give them a small car to compete with the Volkswagen Beetle. Central to this plan was bringing four Lotus prepared Cortinas over and giving them to top tier amateur SCCA racers. I was the second owner of one of them, and raced it for two years before going the Datsun route because of their support program. On the two short courses hereabouts (Texas) the Cortina could run heads up with the larger Mustangs and Camaros.

In my opinion, I think you should keep the Volvo completely stock, let it carry on being a sensible, Swedish estate car like it was designed to do. Race it, rally it sure but I think giving it flashy modern wheels, fluorescent blue paint and a body kit on a car like that is just....wrong.

One of the many many things I really live about jay's show is how big he is on trying to shed light on all these companies and places. Like that museum, or dynamat, or vintage air, or hotchkiss suspension. I love these restoration updates! My family car when I was a boy was a 1968 Volvo 144 sedan. My parents were "Volvo people" and had had numerous Volvos before the one I had gotten to know. Even now, my father, a former limousine driver, thinks the 544 Volvo was the finest car he'd ever owned. I'd love to see that wagon restored to stock. Aloha Jay, For your 1914 Detroit Electric power train instead of the Nissan Leaf I'd like to suggest to you the Chevy Spark EV. It has 140 hp and get this... 400 foot pounds of torque! Compared to the Nissan Leaf's 107 hp and 187 foot pounds torque. Less expensive too. Can't wait to hear that Cunningham's Hemi roar, what an amazing and rare piece of American automotive history that beauty is. Also can't wait to hear that Caddy engine back to life on the Pike's Peak hill-climber. I think it would be cool to put a modified to fit fiberglass body from a Sebring MX (Austin Healey replica) on this awesome piece of history.

There are few Cortinas left in the UK because a vast majority of them 'oxidised quite rapidly and it was quite normal to have to have the top of the inner wing, where the Mc Pherson strut top is bolted, fitted with a welded strengthening plate so that a three year old vehicle would get through it's first MOT test! Many other makes did little better.

I cant stop looking at the al barns hot rod. I've watched this video at least 15 times just pausing and replaying that one section of video. I need to know more about it, I love every single detail about it.

This reminds me of this 3rd Generation Camaro I passed by yesterday, the owner said he planned on renovating it, and using it as a race car, but if I ever came into some money, I'm definately gonna give him an offer so I can add that beauty to my collection.

Glad you kept the original motor in your Mercedes! And that Volvo is going to be so cool. The blue color would be perfect.

That car built by Al Barns is amazing. The attention to detail and the amount of engineering and thought put into that car is like you said, genius. That’s the car I’m most excited to see finished just because it’s so cool and so different plus it should be a little rocket at 1800 lbs and 500 hp 😳
