I used Biltema Rust eater (Rostätare). I guess any brand will work.

Can you estimate how long it took to take the rust off? I’m a beginner, so please don’t laugh at me for this one… but I have an orbital sander, will that work if I have the wire disk you used?

It took about one hour. I guess it will not work with orbital sander with wire disk. But you can use sander to remove the rust. It will work.
