I ordered a 50th anniversary T/A with a 400/auto new in early 1976 waited forever for the car. Heard from the dealer the T-Tops were on hold and GM would only release about 600 cars to have T-Tops. Got the number of a GM Rep and asked for my VIN to have T-Tops, he said no problem. Then waited even longer. Finally I got tired of waited and ordered and received a new Corvette but kept the T/A order open because my bother was interested in the car. He ended up taking delivery in August of 1976 and took the car to Dallas where about a year after it was stolen and never recovered.

I had a chance to buy a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 50 th Anniversary edition 400 auto car. This was in 1985. It was really rough. Been rode hard and put up wet. The guy wanted 2k for it. It ran decent and drove like a rattle trap. But it was all there. Rough paint and dents. Doors sagged pretty bad. Had to lift the doors up a bit to shut them. None T top car. Needless to say I passed on it. Needed more than I could afford at the time. I ended up a few years later buying a 1979 TA 400, 4 speed W72 package. Nocturne blue for 1000 bucks. Original PWH 400 with a spun rod bearing. It was all there. Way better shape than the 76 TA I looked at years ago. Restored the car and rebuilt the engine. Kept it for 17 yrs then sold it. The 76 455 TA 50th anniversary you picked up is sweet. Beautiful car no doubt. Glad it’s in good hands now.

In 1999 in a private junk yard in Dallas, GA filled with Pontiacs, there was a 1976 50th Trans Am that had been gutted and turned into a drag car at one point in its life, but it sat there in that junkyard just the body, no engine, no interior but the vin plate was still there so i broke out my book and was shocked to see a car that important in that condition.

I bought one in 1992 at the Bear County auction (TX). 455 4speed no T tops, Red deluxe interior. At the time I had no clue what it was. Just I got it cheap, and it was cool. Car was totaled in Nashville Tn by the man I sold it to, that was around 1995.

Although the front sections on laters models could’ve left this one looking plain, its side front profile is definitely the meaner! with the rear tail lights possibly setting the standard across the entire range.. After being beside one of these (in traffic) from a high sitting position, I’d say they do have a luxury car element that I believe needs to be homed into and optimised! The consistency of steel fabrication and dynamic design is certainly there! 🎉

Hi, quick question. At one part of the video you asked about the mileage. I noticed that it had a 160mph speedometer. I thought 74 was the last year for 160mph speedometer. Was the speedometer wrong for the car? Just curious because a lot of people switch out for the 160mph speedometer and it ruins the mileage on the car. Thanks
@LeonLett-m3z2 ай бұрын
You’re right. 1974 was the last year for the 160 mph speedometer on Firebirds. 75-79 had 100mph and then 80-81 had 85 mph so who knows how many miles that TA has. But it’s getting restored so it really doesn’t matter at this point. It’s cool that it still has the original 455. Especially with 4-speed cars , people blew them up over revving them big motors. Definitely a cool 😎 TA!!

My father bought a new 77 black bandit TA. He ordered it before the movie came out. Afterwards I think he was embarrassed by the whole thing and hardly ever drove it. The t tops were stolen in Venice beach cal around 82 or 83. Funny thing is one of them had a crack in the glass from new. Could still be out there somewhere.
