Welcome to Coffee Walk Ep. 162!
My team and I loaded up the truck and trailer this morning to head out to Quinlan, Texas to talk American Muscle with Thomas Weeks and to rescue a rarely-optioned 1972 Pontiac Trans Am. Just how rare? Well I’m going to let you guys watch to find out because I don’t want to ruin it, but let’s just say this Trans Am (1 of only 458 produced) can keep a couple of car guys talking for hours on end.
Special thanks to B&F Diner in Royse City for the epic lunch and great service!
Check out our 2,700-Mile 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 6-Speed for sale now on Bring-A-Trailer: bringatrailer....
As always, GO FAST, HAVE FUN & HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!...and thanks for watching!

Ask him a paint code question and get a beer. You're gonna know the complete history and every derivative of it and he's not even a body guy. He's an aerospace engineer.

@Marty Flannigan That is understandable. But if you follow Dennis, like I imagine you do, Dennis is usually looking at numbers and going over vehicles he is considering as soon as he arrives. If you notice in the few videos where he and Thomas have dealt, especially this one, he stands back and listens to Thomas and takes him at his word. There is a respect and trust Dennis has with Thomas you don't see on most every other purchase. Granted Dennis does have to get Thomas back on track from time to time, but the trust he has in the inspection Thomas has already done shows.

Back in my 20's which was the late 80's early 90's all I ran was Pontiac. All fire birds and trans ams and a couple of late 60's fire birds. Believe it or not if submerged yourself in the world of cars you learn the numbers. In the beginning I had a book with all the casting numbers. I also had a list of certain Vin numbers of cars that came with certain vins. Now back then you could find certain cars for sale that were still reasonable. You could also still find alot in junk yards. So after a few years out digging around looking you would start to remember the good numbers and what cars had them. You would also learn about the good rear ends and transmissions. My first car I legally had on the road was a 1980 trans am with the WS6 suspension package. I was 16 but I had a 66 Pontiac tempest and a 76 ford f250 camper special. It had I believe a 390 with a 4speed with granny low trans in it. I had both of those at 14. So you can see if you are a car guy that it is possible to learn the good numbers. They don't know all the numbers just the good ones. Because those are the only ones that count.

I’m restoring a 1979 10th anniversary trans am 400/4 speed car that belonged to my dad he lost years ago to hard times. Found it abandoned behind a shop in Memphis Tennessee. Which is where we’re from so got lucky it never left the area. When I pulled the motor turned out it was a 75 b body 400 motor. Bummer but I remember my dad had blown the engine on more than one occasion so it’s not surprising and it was blown when he lost the car. Pulled it apart and it was rough and needs sleeves. I sat it aside and just looked online for a secondary block and BAM! Guy about an hour away in Arkansas had a 1971 YS code 400 block from a GTO. YS code was rated at 300 horsepower at the time which was still good considering the best 455 package in 1971 put out only 335 hp. Currently in machine shop now getting ready to start assembling soon. Love these videos. Cheers 🍻

I was curious how Dennis Thomas and Richard Rawlings were all connected for tv show. Looks like Dennis and Thomas were the real original car guys and Richard was the late bloomer as far as cars go. But that's my opinion based off of watching the shows and you tube videos. So I may be totally out in left field with my opinion seeing it's not fact based.

True very good friends with history, I'd be willing to bet Thomas' would be more dialed back if it was just the two of them talking privately.

Cool to hear these guys talk so much about the numbers on these cars. You know for sure these cars will be restored to their glory and not chopped up like sometimes cars are when being redone.

I think Thomas is the polar opposite of Alex ,I’ve heard him talk more in one episode than Alex has. In 200! Can’t wait to see what you guys do with that car

Thomas and Dennis you can tell they grew up together. Thomas is the only one on the show that can hang with Dennis’s knowledge. You can see how much Dennis listens and respects His opinion. At the same time I think Thomas wears him out with how much and fast he spits information lol

Howdy y'all from the French Riviera ... from a native "Cowtownian" whose family used to own a farm on FM2101 and many trips to our property as a kid thru Quinlan to get there. Thanks for the trip down memory lane ... good to see Thomas as well. And for the record, your trip to "Burgers & Fries" killed me !!! Just found your channel ... binge watching now !!! Again, thanks for the smiles you gave a fellow Texan ....

Sherlock and holmes on figuring out what the heck happened on that strike car. Outstanding. Always a lesson on car history in a good way. Thomas is a good guy too.

Once guys like this are gone there wont be any more cars being made that guys will talk about like this, ...with such passion and respect. Cars will be boring, identically mass produced, electric cars devoid of nostalgia. The entire era of combustion engine cars and their faithful admirers and modders, will be a quickly forgotten 50-60 year long blip in history, never to be repeated.
