Restored Fasco L55A Hassock Fan

Short video showing my new vintage "Hassock" fan (sorry I said "Hossack" in the video, couldn't remember the word) after finishing my restoration. I think it is from the 1950s. These are also called footstool fans and were made in the 50s through the 70s maybe? Dunno but it's an awesome fan with 360-degree breeze. Love it.

I got an identical one today in navy blue. Replaced the dry rotted cord with a vacuum cleaner cord I saved and this thing is a top!

So chuffed I ran across your video. I bought one off of eBay several years ago, because my grandma had one. It was a wonderful fan. My sister inherited grandma’s and won’t part with it. Mine is rustier than yours was but your refurb gives me hope. Mine also needs rewiring. The control switch quit working a few weeks after I got it. So for now I have one speed & have to plug it in to turn it on & unplug it to turn it o ff. lol mine is shades of gray.

Nice work. I inherited a similar Fasco hassock fan from my parents - mine is definitely from the 50s. I used it for years in my office, but now the motor is making very unhappy noises and won't turn. I have taken it partly apart, but have not been able to get the motor out of the base - any ideas on how to do that or fix it? -- Jeff Hecht

Jonathan, I brought one home yesterday from my in-laws house we were cleaning out for renters. Please share with me the colors you used to match the original colors? Did you paint the chrome part of the safety cage or just use steel wool to knock off a little rust.

I'm so sorry but I don't have the paint cans anymore and never wrote down the color names. I did re-chrome the safety cage, though, I remember that. I seem to recall that the color that looks purple was actually a shade of brown. I actually took the pieces inside the hardware store with me to match them.

Hi Jonathan!! I just inherited a fan just like yours. Is disassembly done from the bottom? Were you able to match the original color? Any tips on rebuilding one?? Thanks so much! You did a great job on yours!!

Hey, thanks for the comment. I came very close to matching the original colors by taking sample parts into the hardware store with me to compare to krylon paint can lids.
