Wrapping up on the Emerson R-156 Electrodynamic Speaker for a great friend by getting the new field coil placed, the original speaker cone installed, fabricating and installing a new gasket out of cardboard followed by some basic testing.
Thank you for watching and subscribing to my channel on vintage radio repair.

Don, my name is John. I am restoring a chassis for a customer and the cabinet was done by Bruce up in Grand Rapids. I was wondering, do you re-cone for customers still. The speaker that he has is working but the cone is really bad even though I repaired it just so he could listen to it. I love your work so as a avid follower I thought I would ask for him. If so I am on Facebook as Radio Hound and you can look at the restoration album. It is a Zenith 12-S-475. Darth Vader. You can let me know on here or there. I love your work and detail. I learn so much from you. I will understand if you can't do it but maybe you know some one who does. He has put a lot of money in this and wants it done by the best. Thanks in advance.

John - I know with Bruce refinishing the cabinet, this radio will look amazing. The Zenith Darth Vader is a special radio you are restoring and for the speaker reconing, I would reach out to Nick Dorazio at thespeakershop.com/home.html. Being it’s just a hobby for me, I would recommend someone with Nick's knowledge and experience. Thank you for your kind words regarding my repair efforts, it’s appreciated. I would enjoy seeing a photo or two of the restoration. My email is TheRadioRepairGuy at gmail.com. All the best. Don

I've got a peerless reproducer (No. B 44545) with a paper cone and a (thin) leather gasket/surround. I'd like to restore moisture into the cone and surround, but I don't want to ruin it either. Any suggestions, tips, advice, etc. It seems 2 b in great shape otherwise(despite the age- 1900-1920s) but I'm afraid to do anything with it. Again any suggestions, tips, advice, etc? Thanks

I don’t have a schematic for the unit. I assume your voice coil DC resistance is in check in addition to the output transformer, etc. Best, Don

What was that DC voltage you were applying to the field?
@RestoreOldRadios
@RestoreOldRadios 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t recall exactly, but I think around 20 volts DC. The key is really DC current, i.e., the DC current can’t exceed the rating of the Field Coil. In most cases you’ll see 40 to 70 mA of current. Best, Don

@RestoreOldRadios

+pep1dog1 A modern day speaker yes. Since the speaker belongs to another party, I will defer the dust cap decision to them. Best, Don
