Fantastic! My fiance and I just moved into a 200+ year home. We're going to have to learn about restoration- my fiance has more repair experience than I do, so that's a plus. Another master class. Totally worth spending the time to strip the doors ‘Mechanically’ rather than dip…. Lost 17 doors to a professional dip service - shrinkage snd loss of glue in the joints destroyed them. Patience pays off 😎👍✅

Like your home, the doors and many other original features in my Edwardian house were clad and painted with gloss so it was a lovely surprise when the cladding was removed. It is definitely worth the effort of hand stripping the doors as you advise. I made the mistake of getting my Edwardian doors dipped and they were ruined as they came back warped. Question about the method of removing the old paint. I assume the paint is old, and so has lead in it. No danger in removing it like this?. Isn't a paint stripper better option? - Would be happy for your thoughts here.

If you had to redrill the holes for the latches, how would you do it? Smallest size latch I’ve found is around 23mm and the door is 27mm thick. I’ve used a spade bit but you have to get it absolutely Bob straight or else it will pop out on the side of the door. I’ve got the exact same doors as you and copied the colour and I love it so thank you!

Great work on the doors, and the speed and finish achieved with the sprayer is very appealing. I’m painting our internal doors with Brouns & co linseed oil paint (after watching you use it, and we are very impressed with it) do you think it would be possible to apply this paint with a sprayer? (the slow drying times would not be an issue for us)

Diamond Eggshell is around £90 for 5L. Be interested to know your costs? I’ve used it on some walls. My favourite paint for doors is Johnstone’s Aqua Satin. Lovely stuff, high quality finish. Covers really well. Cheers

heat gun or blow lamp is the only way to strip paint nowadays when i was a apprentice using them just after the formula was changed it took 6-7 coats of stripper just to strip one door and frame must have got through about £60 worth if you don't like making money use paint stripper. the best way to prime those doors would be to use aluminium primer it permanently block the knots

@@gerrym4377 I'll do you one better. Pop into B&Q or Screwfix or any timber merchants and you can get a 4 or 6 panel solid door for about £65. You can go fancier and get a solid oak door for just under a £100. Unless there's something truly unique about an interior door, it's not worth the bother trying to restore one. The doors worth restoring are usually the front doors of 1930s, art deco, victorian, edwardian etc Definitely not these bog standard internal doors like in this video.

@@AJ-ds5gf ah. Well as someone who lives in a 1920s home and has a mixture of original doors and some as you describe installed by a previous owner I can say they just don’t compare in quality, the new ones look like cheap reproductions. Each to their own though 😊
