Cracking job Tim! Looks really effective... would love to do this up my staircase on the wall side but the idea is already giving me a headache because of all the angles and the fact my staircase has two turns in haha! I may get to it one day! So busy sorting other houses rather than my own. Glad to see everyone is well and chipping in! Take care all! Marc!

If you put the adhesive on as a perimeter about 3 inches in from the edge then make lines across and long ways you will make a grid that will create a suction in all of the squares that will hold the sheet on far more securely than random squiggles

Nice video, wish I'd seen some of this before I panelled our bedroom... One comment/suggestion re the cutting of the strips - I just bought the MDF sheets in B&Q and had them cut it down to size in the store. The guy wasn't best pleased at having to cut multiple strips off each piece but it meant I didn't have to worry about trying to cut it myself.

Lovely job good work, ive worked on a few properties that have this panelling and have decided as you have to put it in my hallway, its a great solution to high traffic areas at dado height, we too have 2 little ones running around unfortunately ours have 4 legs and seem quite fond of clawing the walls so any sort of redecoration with any wallpaper is out of the question. Brilliant and very informative video, please keep them coming 😀👍

Having done both and I know carpenters who have done both, I encourage both ways of panelling both full panels and lengths of MDF straight on the wall providing you know your walls. I wouldn't preach your way is necessarily better or it is hard to achieve a good finish by doing it what I guess you would consider the cheats way of panelling, otherwise if we were all looking to do true panelling we would all be carving it out of oak like in the 15th century! Many use panelling these days floor to ceiling for a feature wall to add interest rather than to block out cold or damp so full panels are extra work and not always required if a good finish is achievable and you use the correct materials for the job.

Great work❤️ have been doing the same just a different style Small tip for the glue - it is a good idea to make the glue lines so that they are open in the top. That limits the amount of moisture that may be trapped behind the panels😊

What size trim did you put on top please ? I know you had 12mm in total with your panels
@bdizzle76333 жыл бұрын
Very nice job, As a carpenter having done this a few times i Just wondered what detail you will end up with the architrave you temporarily put on ie both finishes on a flat wall “butting” into one another and looking at your finished arcs you have used elsewhere being a 18mm finish. So your cladding with a build up of 30mm in total will sit proud of your arcs that are 18mm and returning the skirting and top rail on itself is a little unsightly. So may be beneficial to increase the depth of your arcs as we do if what I am saying is indeed the case with your project all the best👍🏻
@retroclickmedia44222 жыл бұрын
Another point I noticed is that traditionally the top and bottom rails would be morticed and tennoned into the vertical stiles at each end of a run. So the bottom and top rails should be between the left and right stiles not under / on top of them. Only a small point but it will be noticable after painting.
@pb4012 Жыл бұрын
Looks great! Is it generally the consensus amongst viewers that putting a base panel down is necessary? If you use a quality primer between the strips as well and then the same gloss/satin is it noticeable? Although I’d rather do it the way shown in the video my wife seems to want panelling EVERYWHERE so I’m just trying to avoid the extra work required! 😂
@martinstahl29593 жыл бұрын

Great video as always guys. Others doing this might want to think about using moisture resistant MDF for the bottom panel (under the skirting). I know it’s off the floor thanks to the packers but if the floor gets mopped or too wet the MDF might expand and blow out. We had a similar problem in the kitchen in our last house.
@TheRestorationCouple3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no real need to go right down with that piece either. I run a small bead of sealant along the bottom of the skirting to keep things a bit more sealed and also easier to clean which helps too. 👍

Been doing this for the last 2 days now, first time doing it. it is driving me mad haha. its just because of this darn cheap parkside nail gun i bought, total rubbish, bends the nails etc, makes big dents in the panels so having to fire the nails into a cup and then hammer the nails in one by one myself. breaking down the 8ft boards takes time as well as i only have a jobsite table saw i have to cut by hand first then table saw the lengths. every wall is not level and each corner of the room isnt level either so its taking so much longer fiddling with bits to get it all right. am thankful for this video as its filled with info and advice that has helped me a lot
@TheRestorationCouple3 жыл бұрын
Try shooting the nails through a piece of plastic bottle or similar to stop the nose marking.
@Retrobution3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRestorationCouple great tip!! its also just that the nails go in and get crushed down by the hammer action of the gun so it jams bent nails up inside the nozzle. it is a very terrible nail gun that id spend 10 mins un jamming it etc :(
@ashleyparker45803 жыл бұрын
I think in future you should mask the floor before you put the panelling and skirting on, once painted, use a Stanley to cut tape out. I find it gives such a crisper paint job where it meets the floor

Hi. Question please. If the two walls your panelling are not the same length, the spacing would work out differently. What should I do? Thank you very much.
@JOIHIINI Жыл бұрын
You could see if there are any measurements for the spacing of the trims that divide into each other, for instance 1 wall is 45 inches the other is 60, you could space them 15 inches apart.
