I’ve really missed you. I’m 71 and have about eight antique radios. The oldest is my grandparents 95 year old Radiola. 😊They’ve all been restored. Wish I were younger so I could learn to repair them. I’ve missed your videos so much and glad you just released this one. Thanks so much for entertaining and educating me! PS: Wife just counted. 16 antique radios. Ooops! Who’s counting when you’re having fun??

If you are actually having cognitive loss PLEASE make as many videos as you can before you lose it. You are a national treasure of knowledge on how old electronics work and how old tubes were made and it will truly be tragic if the information in your brain pan gets lost. Keep making these videos, and keep loving that adorable cat.

I always know I'm seeing a professional in action when I see a cracked and busted solder reel! Every old school engineer has one on the bench and I think they last forever hence the dilapidated state! Love watching you troubleshoot your way to a repaired item - from the diagnostics through to always having the right (or 'that'll do, close enough') resistor\capacitor etc in the reclaimed trays!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the craftsmanship from those early days (the rheostat alone is a work of art) blended in with some of today's technology - manufacturing today is hell bent on saving every 1/4 of a cent - and it shows imho. Nicely done Ron - thanks for sharing your latest resurrection.

Amazingly brilliant videos, just found your channel a couple of weeks ago but have been working my way through viewing them all. The best electronics educational instructor I have ever seen. I learn something with each one of your wonderful videos. I especially like when you show a schematic and you explain exactly how it works, case in point the radio restoration video of a 1920’s homebuilt reflex receiver. You seem to have every tool or machine needed for any job, I envy your workshop. Your a skilled tradesman, great teacher, and electronic genius. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

What a shrewd purchase you got Ron. A 1921 HR receiver and two stage HZ amplifier . There is a nice one page illustration of how the set works from world radio history in their copy of Radio Digest Illustrated from july 29,1922. Left side of page 6 explains it all and page 7 is the illustration. Nice repairs to all that mishandling throughout its 100 years existence. I do wish you a Happy New Year and many more years of educating us on vintage electronics! Steve

WOW! Great find! Thanks for sharing. DON'T say you'll get Alzheimer's! I know you won't. I forget stuff all the time. Less than 2% of disease is generic. I ten years, you'll have a ton more videos and have to find more space to take on more stuff. We're NEVER too old to pursue what we love. What exactly do any of us plan to do when we get old and "take it easy" anyway ? I'm a Shih Tzu man, which is kinda like a cat!

Sorry to hear about your possible illness, I stopped putting things in a safe place because I could never find them either 😅 Really enjoy your videos I have watched them all and most I have watched multiple times. They give me more of an interest and understanding in old electronics and how they work as I get to see a hands on approach and not just a text with a schematic. Really enjoy the glass blowing videos and making vacuum tubes plus the high voltage transformer is definitely a favourite. Dont really get to see vacuum tubes being made these days and really makes you think about other possibilities and combinations with making vacuum tubes.

I’ve lost a mother and two brothers to Alzheimer’s….the most recent just before Christmas. I’m not prepared to resign myself to thinking I will become a victim of this heinous malady. I’m a professional Jazz musician, and as such, at age 67 I have no intentions of retiring. I think as long as my mind stays invested in the pursuit of excellence, then I am less and less susceptible. You have a wealth of electronic knowledge….you stay invested in that art. Never assume anything. Best of wishes. I love your videos!

🤔"I put it somewhere so I couldn't lose it - now I've lost it". That just about describes me too, Ron - EVERY DAY! I've lost count of how many things I now have 2 of, because I had to buy them again. Sadly the cross-modulation performance of those old radio designs just can't cope with modern high power, close frequency spaced radio stations. (But I really doubt you'll suffer dementia all the time you regularly exercise your brain diagnosing and fixing radios). Happy New Year!
