I love watching peojects like this. Ya, old tools and methods are less efficient than the machinary we use today, but the simplicity and beauty are truly something to behold. And seeing something like this restored to working order is lovely.

Please remember to keep your back straight and only bend at the knees when lifting very heavy objects. This will prevent severe back injuries.

I was wondering too, and it took way more time than I'd like to admit to track it down. It's common name in English is "China Bluestone." Its harder than most marble, but usually isn't quite as hard as granite.

Unlikely to be significant. The stones are the same type, so they shouldn't be shaving each other much. Maybe the first grind could be higher contamination? But realistically it's no worse than eating dirt (probably better)

Its a reason stone grinders are not used anymore. But by its design its for rough grind for livestock. For pigs and chickens. Not every chicken will eat whole grains.

No le gusta mostrar que tiene herramientas eléctricas, quiere hacerlo parecer que todo es manual, pero igual las usa, sólo que corta esa parte. Creo que la parte de rectificar las estrías de la piedra podría haberlas hecho con un dremel, nada caro si compras uno alternativo y hubiera quedado más uniforme, de hecho sólo mostró una parte de usar un cincel, quizás sí usó el dremel fuera de cámara, lo que me parece curioso es que estos canales en redes sociales de china, insisten en mostrar un lado tradicional como propaganda de china para mostrar la "cultura" del país, pero todo es falso con set de filmación y excelentes cámaras, incluso en los templos budistas tienen iPhone los monjes, pero los ocultan de los turistas por ese lavado cerebral comunista que imponen los lideres, no sé cual es el objetivo de no ser más transparentes. Quiero decir, ambas formas de vida pueden coexistir lo moderno con lo tradicional, pero les gusta engañar con estos canales mostrando una falsa realidad... Saludos.

Nah, they didn't when these were in common use. Just think of all that fibre/roughage you're getting in your diet. A little hard on the teeth though.

fake.. that's not a 100 year old stone mill.. that's brand new. there's zero wear on it at all, so it's never been used. hell, it's never been out doors for more than a few days.

You'd be surprised. Sometimes you just find old millstones laying about on people's properties. If the millstone was abandoned, then it probably wasn't essential to whatever community it was in and would have just been left gathering moss. My grandfather had an old millstone, and he turned it into a stone tabletop, and when he died no one really claimed it, so it would have been left to whoever bought his house.

@@Brutalyte616 its not about the authenticity of the stone only such growth you get over a year or few months. If it sit there for several years there will be thick moss and underneath sings of ants and worms. The soil around is so soft because it was put there recently, in his garden amongst the cabbage. But as a stone sculptor that look quite crisp for a hundred tears old, probably could be from the 1920 or even later. And recon never used.

I can't speak for the stone, but the dude is a legit carpenter. You can see him carving the wood every step of the way which is supposed to be the focus anyway. completely staged is grossly minimizing the work being done here. Anyway, enjoy your engagement-bait
