Very interesting and also optimistic. Flooded. And no problems with the electricity (Connections and so on ?).

What model of the 968 did you have?
@tond20062 жыл бұрын
@@thedrivebygg I had a 1993 Midnight blue metallic manual coupe. Modified to have M030 chassis with the thicker anti-roll bars, Koni shocks, lower/stiffer springs and bigger brakes (sourced from a 928 S4). Oh, and the original 3-spoke Club Sport steering wheel. More a less a Club Sport with M030, albeit not born that way. Sadly lost in a silly traffic accident.

@@tond2006 Nice colour choice, I posted a video last week on a slate gray 968 coupe, always like the model, will hopefully purchase a manual in the near future.

So I’m not alone! I’m just about to embark on a 968 that was 6 feet under water for a short time and have been sitting since 2003. But straight body and only 37k miles is a great challenge

Congrats on finding a great project 968. It's a long road ahead but if the price was right then it will be worth it. I'd like to take on a flood car at some point but not at the high Water Level your 968 experienced. Every part is going to moldy, rusty, and/or stinky! I am wondering how the fluids were not contaminated with flood water? That's a neat trick.
@GarageBiljon2 жыл бұрын
I have not found any rust other than on a couple of interior fasteners. However, every electric motor that was under water is going to need replacing/rebuilding The window regulators don't work, and neither does the motors in the seats. I have just replaced then starter motor and I will be installing a rebuilt alternator soon. Thankfully it looks like the roof motor and mechanism is intact and stayed above the water line 😅. The smell coming out of this car is absolutely horrible, but it is improving with each component I clean.

It made me really sad to see all the destruction in Germany last year, yet I am glad you're trying to save something from here! will the leftover 924 videos be released in parallel?
@GarageBiljon2 жыл бұрын
Me too MagnetPull, I drove through there at the end of last year and it is gut wrenching to see the devastation. The 924 videos will remain stand alone episodes in the Safari Build series. I hope to bring some updates on the progress at the body and paint shop soon!

If the water was up to the level you think the engine must have been submerged. If so water will have got into the oil and cylinders (at least 2). Maybe someone already changed the oil and cleared out the cylinders. Check the intake for evidence.
@GarageBiljon2 жыл бұрын
Looking at where the mud is deposited and where the car is relatively clean, I think only the left rear was submerged. The motor itself is very clean, and I don't think the auctioneers would have taken the time to detail it. I will take some footage of the intake and share it next time.

I know right! That why I bought it, the engine was definitely not under water.

it looks like a good project Johann, although I think its going to be a lot of work! I imagine the alternator was submerged in water, and that hasnt done it any good. The transmission would have been under water too, I wonder how well the torque tube, gearbox, clutch, have survived ?
@GarageBiljon2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris, I will drain the gearbox oil and see what I find. The good thing is that 968's have much easier acces to the clutch than a 924 and 944 so I should be able to do a thorough inspection of it. If I look at where there is mud and where there isn't I think the car was sitting with it's back in the water. There is no trace of mud or gunk anywhere in the engine bay, so I think that is all good. I guess time will tell!

Looks like a great project! Very likely that the alternator is dead. Seems like a key idea would be to strip and inspect all wiring harnesses since the combination of old wires and potential water incursion could cause all manner of electrical issues. Based on my experience with my 968, get a known good alarm module as almost everything runs through that at some point in a circuit.

Thanks @@jeffhammond8969, I am going to completely gut the interior and will then check all connectors and modules.
