In this video I will restore a Pokemon mini handheld console. This unit doesn't turn on and it's quite yellowed. I removed the yellowing with retrobrighting, here's my tutorial to for that: • How to remove yellowin...
Next I cleaned all the corrosion from the board which fixed the issue with turning on.

I’m old enough to remember those days of the Pokémon Mini. I didn’t own one myself, but what I can tell you is that I actually owned a Pokémon Pikachu 2, a pocket Pikachu that communicated with the old Pokémon Gold and Silver games through the Infrared connection. The watts you earned by walking with your Pocket Pikachu were able to be redeemed for items via the Mystery Gift. I hope that in a future video, you get to restore a Pocket Pikachu of some kind.

As I started playing the games with Pokemon Blue, can I just say that I resent you calling Pokemon Silver/Gold old! 😅
@octolingjen
@octolingjen 5 ай бұрын
@@Zoso14892 It was never intended to be offensive, so I’m sorry for not saying “original”. However, I think there are worst things that people can choose to use when describing retro games and have done so. This is just my personal opinion, but I don’t think “old” as an adjective is really all that bad. It’s like when my boss or other old people take high offense to being called “old” when they are in their 60s and above, as if they feel ashamed of it. Unfortunately, society sometimes corrupts and brainwashes people into thinking that being old, whether it’s an object or tech device that was created in the past, or a human being that’s lived as long as they have, is the worst thing to happen to something or someone. If you still feel a resentment towards me, I can’t stop you from feeling that way. Although I think resenting me because of using an adjective that you disagreed with is a bit extreme. I’d rather you resent me for my actions and not my words.
@Zoso14892

@octolingjen ah, I'm sorry! I was only teasing. I'm not even that old, I was a kid when Pokemon first started. My mind just refuses to believe an extra decade has passed, and it's not still 2013 😆

@@Zoso14892Oh okay. It’s hard to tell sometimes. I totally get what you mean. As of writing this reply, I celebrated my 40th birthday earlier this week. Don't forget about the trick of soaking the screen adhesive with IPA to loosen it and rocking the plastic frame back and forth to release the screen when dealing with fragile screens also you left quite a bit of corrosion on the PCB you could have got it out with some vinegar. But you have to make sure to get rid of it all otherwise it'll also corrode the copper

It always brings me happiness to see these videos. They are just the perfect blend of satisfying restoration and on point tongue-in-cheek comedy. I have been going through quite a lot lately, because we just now moved in to our new house after living in a camper for the past 8 months. It’s been a long and nerve racking journey, and I was very close to losing my sanity. But it was these videos that were my refuge. I would just go to the back of the camper, grab my phone, and turn on an Odd Tinkering video, and I would instantly lull myself into a relaxed state. It was like therapy to me. Odd Tinkering (and Ducktor, too!) if you are reading this, you cannot begin to fathom how thankful I am. Thank you.

20yrs ago I worked for a cell phone company that made tiny cell phones. So I can speak somewhat to reason(s), which I would assume could also apply here. 1-Consumers, especially in asia were asking for smaller products, 2-research into miniaturization, to test your own abilities and skill sets and if you actually sell it you can recoup the research cost, 3-respin a product from one region to another, for very little initial financial outlay, 4-Chasing Fads, You might be too young to remember how the world reacted to the Tamagotchi when it was originally released. Everyone tried to capitalize on it, there were even people making $$$$$ offering daycare/babysitting for other people's Tamagotchi's while their owners went to school/work. Everybody wanted a piece of that action, and even if you failed it was worth trying because of the afore mentioned reasons #2 & #3

You can clean corrosion from the circuit board with the eraser on a standard #2 pencil first, then follow up with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab afterwards. The eraser is very mildly abrasive & cleans the circuit board more quickly & easily than just the cotton swab.
