This was absolutely incredible! I love how you showed all the process, with trial and error included. I am, unfortunately, a bit of a quitter. Partly because I'm insecure, partly because I'm unfocused. Seeing a video of someone not being able to do something at first but finding alternatives and trying again is very inspiring. Congratulations on your work and thank you :)

For future reference, one of the easiest ways to remove rust from steel is to boil some vinegar over a fire and toss the parts in. leaving them to boil for around 2 or 3 hours usually results in the rust just sloughing off.

you might want to look into getting a variable speed grinding wheel with a steel wire brush wheel if you plan on doing more restoration of metal parts. They make pretty quick work of most rusty things, and I've found that on a lot of things you can even skip the electrolysis. It would save you a lot of time and hand work and it leaves you with a fairly decent mat finish. Just be careful and use eye protection

This is so awesome! It's also exactly the kind of thing the protagonist of my current story project would do. (It's a flintlock fantasy about a Half-Orc woman who's a bit of a jack-of-all-trades.) She finds things other people see as junk, restores them, and even gives them magical properties. Do you guys mind if I have her restore a book press like the one you restored in one of the stories? This thing has a slight steampunk aesthetic to it that would fit nicely into the story setting.
