In House movements are a relatively new thing so I'm not surprised to see an ETA movement, it doesn't detract from the watch.
@FrenchWatchCollector2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but I find it better to have the right eta movement in the watch. Doesn't change anything timing wise but it is more genuine
@garyboyle6952 жыл бұрын
@@FrenchWatchCollector Agree 100% as the movement that was in it was a lesser grade movement. Great job, the dial actually looks good as it is.

Very nice result. Not all the restorations can or should be perfect unless you change everything. What is the point of that. The watch tells a story and it will be a good conversation piece. Thanks.

I'm watching this video....I love to watch anyone performing their craft, whether it is someone sewing, as my beautiful mother did for more than 50 years, or someone applying their makeup, or a watchman repairing a Must de Cartier Tank. I have a question...my MUST de Cartier Tank has severely discolored due to oxidation. Is there any way that the color, which I know is only gold-plated, can be restored? Currently it is so black due to the oxidation. The mechanism has also stopped, so the watch needs a brand new battery .
@FrenchWatchCollector Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment. The watch can be gold plated again like I did in the video. The mechanism can be fixed by just changing the battery if it is a quartz movement. You can go on my website if you want me to service your watch

I love mine, I just wish this watch has some water resistance or at least a gasket. I have to be extra cautious with water related activities as simple as a hand wash when I have it on

the color its a little different, have you probed other quimicals for gold plating?
@FrenchWatchCollector2 жыл бұрын
The original plating was faded so you could see the silver case. This is why it looked a bit greyish first and fully gold at the end

Well, you got it running, and produced a good result, so congratulations on that! But the whole restoration kinda makes me sad, you got a Must Tank but it had a Franken movement, so buy a new movement. Gold plating solutions are expensive, the dial and hands are still damaged, so even though you got the job done, was it worth it? If the object was to learn gold plating then obviously yes! I just feel a little sad for restorers who put all that work in and the end result is less than ideal (unless you can find a replacement dial and hands out there!)
@FrenchWatchCollector2 жыл бұрын
The watch is for my wife. She is very happy with the end result. I found the dial very unique and nice. If you want a vintage watch that looks like a new one is better to buy a new watch. My goal is never to restore a watch that looks like a new one but one that keep its characters and its history. Everyone is different but this the way I like vintage watches.
@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv2 жыл бұрын
As soon as I saw the movement was unoriginal I would have stopped right there. Looks like a cheap (by comparison) eta movement. Cartier does use eta based movements in some of their watches but to a much higher standard than this.
@FrenchWatchCollector2 жыл бұрын
The eta movement between the pagol and the cartier is exactly the same. The cartier obviously as you can see has a cartier brand on it and the decoration is different
@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv2 жыл бұрын
@@FrenchWatchCollector thanks for clarity maybe that why the owner was happy to put that movement in.

I had one of these in with a rusted out movement. I purchased a movement on line and transferred the necessary parts into the cleaned up rusty movement main plate and wheel bridges. I can't understand why people just replace the movement like this when the most important parts of the main watch, even if it's just the balance cock, wheel and barrel bridges, can be salvaged to give the watch the look of originality.
