The trick with bearing races (around the 9 minute mark) is to put a weld bead around the inside of the race. When the weld cools, the race contracts slightly and lets you get them out.

Do struggle some days translating from US to UK; Triple clamps are Yokes, Wrist pin is a Gudeon pin, Spring clip is a circlip!. I expect you know but a suggestion for the fork legs, crack to bottom bolt loose before taking the pressure off the fork springs. Sometimes the spring pressure will stop the internals spinning whilst the bolt comes undone. Cheers thoug, realy enjoy your vids.

I'm a little late to the video but for those steering head races, if you take a mig welder and put a small bead on the face of the race in a few places it'll contract it and it'll fall right out done it hundreds of times on trailer wheel bearings that are about the same size.
@carlbrown8830 Жыл бұрын
A little millwright trick: if you take a small mig welder and weld a bead a third of the way around the inside of that outer stem bearing race and let it cool, it will fall out.
@kenkong7729 Жыл бұрын
I just sent the same trick .I'm a millwright also
@danokerr9929 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I was thinking the same but for the 20 seconds of taping it with a hammer with a race punch and by the time you get the welder and the gas turned on it doesn’t really pay.

A small tip, find a six inch 1/4 inch rod, cut a slot in one end of it, so it’ll hold a strip of red or grey scotch bite material. It’s useful for reaming our bolts holes, bushing, or bearing races. Of course chuck it up in a drill. It works! Later.

I hear you loud and clear brother.. sometimes a project just gets a bit monotonous and you put it aside for a bit.. then when you get back to it then it's like "yay, I'm doing this again!".. 😂😂😂 But seriously.. working on cars is not the same any more.. cos I haven't worked on a bike aeons and it sucks.. working on bikes is so relaxing cos things are easier to get to physically.. cos bikes are smaller than cars.. But great video Craig.. i cant wait to see the next part brother.. even if it doesnt get done in the next one, it's fun watching you and Dan as yo'all make me chuckle with your antics.. If ya hit that tank with a propane or oxy acetylene torch it'll renew the color as well as remove any scratches,and light gouges with no sanding required... Plus it makes the plastic less prone to cracking as it rejuvenates the plastic making it softer,less brittle again..

I just wanted to take a second to let you guys know how much I appreciate this channel. My dad got me into riding Harleys. I was working at my dream job, had a great apartment, nice truck, ...life was good. My dad retired and I invited him to come live with me to save money. He had a Harley but I had never ridden. Long story short, he helped me get a Wide Glide and we rode everywhere together. Then, I get extremely sick. I was in and out of the hospital so much over the course of two years that my job finally let me go. I lost everything. I sold my bike and truck to cover medical bills. But I fought tooth and nail to keep working, got a new job, but I just could not show up on time or at all several times a month. It wasn't fair to my employer or coworkers. Reluctantly, I finally accepted the fact that I just couldn't do it - after months of my family begging me to - and went on social security. So, on a fixed income, I can't really afford another bike. I could still ride if I had one. I wouldn't be as often as I'd like but I can still drive and ride a motorcycle. I just can't afford it. So, this channel is like my window back into the motorcycle world. The joy you guys get from starting a bike the first time and all the fun you have riding them...? Yeah, I'm living vicariously through you. lol. Thanks for that. Seriously.
