In this video I take and old Genesis 1000 gas grill from the late 80's/Early 90's and restore it. I hesitate to say I restored it because I did not make it exactly how it was out of the box. For instance the two beams that run across the bottom of the frame were missing or rusted beyond repair. Instead of finding new metal beams, I just used wood.
I had planned on trying to sell the grill to see how much profit I could make, but I opted to give it to my dad for Father's Day (that way I can use it when I go visit.)

Nice! I owned one of these for 17 years. In that time I replaced the flavorizer bars once, and maybe a gas hose. It was a workhorse. Your presentations are excellent! Easy and enjoyable to watch.

Just sold my 1999 Genesis 1000 grill (Red with wood shelf). Mine was in very good shape. Sold it for $100 to a collector who will love it and use it. Very good LP gas grill and worth the investment. I've moved on to a Pit Boss Pro Series 1100 pellet grill and love it.

Hey, I didn't buy yours, but I also just purchased a 1999 Genesis 1000 Redhead with the wood shelves. Mine is in a bit rougher shape and I'm in the process of restoring it. It'll sit on the patio with my 6 other Weber grills lol. Needed an older Weber gasser to round out my collection. Enjoy that Pit Boss!

I have one, too and it's been working great. Had a hail storm and hail knocked small holes in the knobs, but still works. Recently, the lower supports (front and back came apart, but I still have the metal supports. I need to take mine apart and see if I can reattach those supports somehow. I see you replaced the front support with a piece of wood. How did you attach it? Maybe a stainless steel wood screw? I'd like to use the metal parts that I have, but not exactly sure how to do it unless I put a Piece of rubber into the ends of the supports (or wood) and screw in that way

Can you paint the middle of the lid with high temperature paint. I have a 1995 Genesis 1000 with red center and black sides. Weber site says you should NOT paint porcelain enamel. I'm assuming the genesis 1000 red part is porcelain enamel...but not 100% sure.
@daveshouseofbbq
@daveshouseofbbq 3 жыл бұрын
It’s is. I wouldn’t paint it. If there are some chipped areas in the porcelain you could try painting some vegetable oil on the spots when the lid is hot. It’s might help prevent rust.

@@daveshouseofbbq Thank you for answering this! I just started scraping the inside of the lid to get off all the old debris, is there a protective coating on there, because the back side of the old grease seems to look like a synthetic material. @@daveshouseofbbq Nice! I have a Weber Genesis 330 natural gas model that I’ve had now for about 8 years that is having an issue regulating temperature. When I put all the burners on low it still goes beyond 500F. I bought a set of burner tubes and I’m planning to replace them this weekend hoping that fixes the issue. The original burner tubes are rusted pretty bad. I’m also going to swap the igniter while I have it apart since the igniter died 5 years ago.
@daveshouseofbbq

Burner tubes would definitely be my guess. When they get that rusty the holes get much bigger and they let out a lot more flame. That would make it really hard to control the temperature

I really want to end up with my restoration on a sort of brand new status. Most of the parts which had to be replaced are still available. Except one: that little hose connecting the side burner. Dave's Ohio BBQ & More Thanks Dave for your quick answer ... we already checked out the newer models, but had no success with that. The other problem is, that in Germany we don’t have craftsmen for gas hoses anymore, like it was way back in the 60ies till the 80ies. Things changed and all that business went up due to globalization. What a pity. But of course I won’t give up. We will find a solution. The lid is protected by porcelain enamel and does not peel or come off. What you're likely seeing coming off is old baked one grease. Take a wire brush and lightly scrape that off. You shouldn't paint the inside of any grill because it will burn off anyway and wind up on your food.
