You can and should really buy ATX to AT power supply adapters and use modern power supply, I have 2 "older machines" a generic beige box Pentium 100 and also a Gateway P2-233. The P100 i dont really care , so if it blows no big deal. The gateway has little use and is in great condition, all caps are good, so i guess gateway did not use the sub standard caps at the time. If the machine is valuable and you can use a generic supply then it is a smart thing to do Regards George

I've recently discovered these computer restoration videos and have been enjoying them. It reminds me of when I built my own PCs back in the day. Of all the PCs I've owned since the early 1990s, only 2 were prebuilt, a Goldstar 386SX I got around 1991 and a Dell AMD Ryzen 5 I purchased in 2017. I lost my last homebuilt PC when my home flooded in 2016 and was planning to build another one, but then I saw that I could buy this Dell, which was similar in specs to what I was planning to build, for a little less money than buying the parts and building it myself so I got a little lazy and bought it. I like the PC and it works well, but there are some things about it that make we wish I'd built my own. Thanks again for the video and maybe I'll build my own PC again soon.

When I saw the picture of the case I had to click and watch. I have the same case but when you take off the small front drive bay cover, mine says G5-233 and it was originally a pentium 233 version. I think Gateway liked this case for their systems as it seemed they used it for awhile and even mine had a metal plate covering the rear 80mm fan exhaust. Strange they did not put a fan in the back. Great video and glad to see another vintage computer not in the trash or scrapped.

hard drive rubber was implemented for noise suppression. not drop protection. I have over 50 of these still in a drawer. These hard drives are remarkably solid work horses. WD were in a huge mess at that year with most of their HDD failing. The ever only ones I have still working is a WD Bigfoot HDD at a measly 4 gigabytes (lost 400mb with CRC issues). but still works fine when the hard drive is limited to no scanning the error area (thankfully it was at the front area furtherest away from the platter.
