The heat shrink is a great idea, I've used electric tape and even zip ties to tighten a wire cup but never even dawned on me to use heat shrink, brilliant! I'm actually just making templates for a little leather project of my own when I can get back out to the shop again. Great restoration as always bud, keep up the good work. As far as young ones of today go...we're doomed.

Love the message about finding the passion .My Grampa instilled that into me but unfortunately passed away when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I am retired now and still spend my time in my shop while my better half wonders how I can spend that much time in there but I do suffer from rearrangeritis (Stumpy Nubs). Then I come inside and spend a lot of my evenings watching online content such as yours which just fuels the urge to get back in the shop the next day. Your effort to pass the sharing of skills is surely the answer to peace because sharing a passion makes us all the same. It costs nothing, but the value is priceless. Time to push the boat out!

Wonderful job on that restoration, Kyle, kept the feeling of the original blade but made new again. Hobbies are a way for people to dedicate time and effort into mastery of a skill outside their job. An essential thing for young people, especially males, to learn to do. Keep up trying to get them engaged :)

@@kyle_noseworthy For years now. Especially in the outdoor world. I think there are two major things happening. One is parents are busy working all the time. 2. Is that the cost of things like sleds, quads and hunting tools , which most kids from the city environment are taught as bad. It’s not just the outdoor world either. Kids spend to much time on line or on video games. Having kids in sports is more expensive. The only kids that have a chance are from the rural life it seems where they learn of work and fun in the outdoors. Hard to turn a kid loose in the city, we all know what that leads too. That is my opinion.

I have a Voos hunting knife, about 70 years old. Was in with junk someone was throwing in metal recycling. Don’t think it was every used. Just cleaned it and sharpened it. It holds an incredible edge, better than any knife I own. That old Solingen steel is amazing.

Kyle I was involved with Boyscouts for many years. The requirements for rank advancement involved earning merit badges and this gave them glimpses into the many topics that they would earn. Alot of times some topics peaked there interests which turned into a hobby.

Great video Kyle. Motivated me to refurbish a very simpler knife by the same company. Called the " Gator Hunter". It was given to me in pretty bad shape with grinder marks and dents on top of the blade. I'll send you a before and after picture when Im done. Thanks for the motivation.

I am 40. A couple years ago, I picked up on restoring antique knives myself. You are totally correct and I totally see it but I will say is this. I think many people in the millennial and GenZ might start to find their passions a little later in life. They may already have them but I think they are afraid to execute those passions.

I like to build and tinker with making things especially woodworking so I own a couple of Dremel Rotary type tools including the original Dremel. But when I go to get out a rotary tool I more often than not I grab my Wen Tools rotary tool the same as the blue one in this video. I bought mine with the included extension and it has been very handy and I prefer it to the Dremel

For that task, you just need to make sure it has an edge. A file is just fine! No stone work needed.

I have been teaching boys in the boy scouts for many years. I would agree that the amount of young people with no perspective or interests in life is growing. But there are also a huge amount of young people out there that are intelligent, motivated, eager to learn and change the world.

yeah not gonna lie young folks still have plenty passions and hobbies theyre just so vastly different from even 15 years ago. Lifestyle and culture changing very fast and so do interests in what people want to get themselves immersed in and learn about

Those sheaths must all wear exactly the same , its a carbon copy of mine except mine had a smaller sheath stitched on the front for a small skinner .

Are you familiar with a German kissing crane bull moose fixed blade knife? My uncle gave it to me when I was about 15. I’m 40 now and it’s just been sitting it the top drawer of my chest of drawers…😂 The sheath it’s in isn’t made for that knife… It kinda reminds me of a Kabar style sheath… It’s got the metal back plate and it wraps around the bottom of the sheath and it has the place for a sharpening stone on the front… I was just wondering if that knife is worth anything I think the handle is real antler. I’m guessing moose antler. It doesn’t really feel expensive but it’s still not a bad knife… I’m kinda thinking about making a sheath for it or possibly buying one… Any advice on how to make a sheath would be greatly appreciated. It does have sentimental value to me because my uncle passed away a couple years ago. Thanks in advance… I also just discovered the antler part of the handle is kind loose, I can twist it side to side…

It can be hard for some, no dads hanging around, poor mothers who can't afford anything to help further knowledge, even books. I had to try flea markets, anything to get knowledge on interests and my area was not a place that promoted getting ahead. Just my thoughts. Nothing can stop the truly motivated. What sort of entitlement lead to smashing of a headstone. That is upsetting to say the least. All the best.

Marc, I didn't think I would have to clarify but the headstone clip was a joke. Haha I have a friend who worked at a headstone manufacturing facility and he would occasionally bring home these blocks of granite from botched jobs. Very useful! The 'no dad' situation is a real tough one, and statistics show that life will probably be pretty tough for them. Let's hope most find good male influences

The Welsh word for a shop is also pronounced 'shop', but spelled 'siop'... 🥴🥴🥴🥴 The female name Siân is pronounced 'Sharn'... Do you take new customers for work like this, I did my best restoring a knife really similar to this one even has same sheath but I don't think I did a good job, it was for my brothers dad and he does like it but I know there will be rust under the handle and I accidentally put a recurve into it while sanding because it was so pitted

Young people today have such a sense of entitlement. I know a lot of people that are in their 20s and 30s and all they want to do is play videogames and larp/cosplay. They don't want to grow up. My own sons are guilty. I've tried to teach them skills and they'd rather game.
