That looks fabulous. Tank dent removal and re chrome is fraught with setbacks, ask me how I know. Yes, worth the effort and cost. 17:35

Thank you Ian, in hindsight it was the best thing I could have done for the old girl. All original. No regrets

Looks great! I have a couple questions about painting a chrome tank like you did in this video. When I'm done painting and I have a half chrome half painted tank, can I clear coat the whole thing or should I tape off the chrome parts and just clear coat the paint? I'm not sure if the 2k clear coat will stick to the chrome. Also.. what prep did you do to the chrome before you painted it? I'd imagine you have to scuff it up with sandpaper before laying down paint.

Thank you. All good questions: No need to clear coat chrome. The painted part is marked out with tape and scuffed with no rougher than 600-800 grit. Metal primed and completed. For the clear coat, run a slight overlap onto the chrome to seal the paintwork on its edges. That’s it! Good luck

@@MyRestoration1 thank you! I wouldn't have known to do a slight overlap with the clear coat onto a little bit of the chrome, but that makes sense.

What was the purpose of the chain links being placed into vinegar in the tank? Some kind of galvanic anode?
@MyRestoration1

No an agitation to remove age old dirt 👍

@MyRestoration1 Got it, I just didn't see much agitation in the recording. Heard of folks just using a bucket of nuts and bolts, wood screws etc for this abrasioning. When I cleaned up a metal tank, I used a bag of clean aquarium gravel and shook it all about in hot soapy water for a good 20-30 minutes, then after much washing out, ran some rust converter (EvapoRust chelating agent). I now know 2x cleaning strength vineagar is a good alternative and much much cheaper.

My question is why didn't do that cleaning process first of cromeing?😅

Hi just came across your vids there good ,I have always cleaned/descaled fuel tanks using diesel about 1/4 tank and over here in NZ we use road chip as there small dense and tend to have sharp corners and there's mounds the road crews leave behind. And I use diesel as its a hydrocarbon thus molecules are smaller than any H20 based" as in vinegar" etc it will weep through the tiniest pin holes, Any how nice job on the bike cheers

Well done! Is it worth it. That is only for you to decide. If the bike is restored as an investment, maybe not. If it is you own treasure and the process of restoring it gives you pleasure, and, you enjoy riding it, then it is well worth it. I am assuming the latter. If that is the case then the investment is worth it. By the way, I am the same age as your Royal Enfield and I wish I looked as good as that motorcycle does.

Wow it looks awesome all finished. If say the Crome was coming off due to the vinegar eating away at the metal. I once left a tank over night full of vinegar with the petcock on (it was unrepairable I had a new one) and when I went out the next day the cont had eaten away the petcock and dropped all the vinegar into the tote I had it sitting on top of. That stuff is extremely potent, and good on salad😂
