Note to most people: DO NOT clean an image sensor with a q-tip and alcohol unless you REALLY know what you're doing. For most image sensors you should use a lint-free microfiber flexible swab designed for cleaning image sensors and methanol instead of isopropyl alcohol. Otherwise you run a major risk of permanently damaging the sensor.

Call me crazy, but I would prefer the complete ad break. That way I can just skip ahead in the video without having to hear or see it (the creator gets paid whether people watch it or not, so skipping it is a-okay). On this one I had to keep watching as a garbage service by a garbage company that can't secure servers properly was advertised to me. Not a great way to do it.

Polishing of the lens removes the anti-reflective coating, so it reduces image contrast and resolution. Scratched lens better to be replaced.

Image quality during the motorcycle ride is very bad. It confused me because I have a 1st gen Gopro and the image is better than that one. That's probably because he removed the coating, for sure. But great restoring nonetheless

obviously correct, but we are all here for the spirit of the game. An old GoPro isn't worth all that patience and expert effort anyway. There are plenty good used ones, but this is a restoration channel. And there is no human way to re-apply a correct factory-grade coating on a lens without proper industrial equipment. So degraded as it is, it works and it looks the part, which in a world of disposable equipment and planned obsolescence is worth commending.

Helpful hint with waterslide decals. A few drops of Microsol under the decal to make it look like it was painted on (it's a mild solvent that melts the decal slightly onto the surface so ridges and seams don't cause bubbles or silvering), and then clear coat over it after it is completely dry

I have not been able to successfully polish a gopro lens yet. No matter how fine the compound I use, I always notice "hazing" or "halo-ing". It is just cheaper (versus time in labour polishing the thing) to buy a replacement. Looking at the bike footage, it might have just been the conditions, but the image does look a little 'hazy' to me. Nice job with the restoration - was a good watch. Thank you!

I know of an NTSC GameCube that needs a little work done, too. Apparently it cuts on and off repeatedly, and the disc reader isn't working in some manner. Former may just be because of dirt.

I think for a low cost/quick fix, it is what it is-that is if you already have glass polish and the tools. I don't think a replacement lens is really that expensive

Yes, it does. I suspect the scratches were only in this coating (anti-reflective coating or AR) which made it fairly easy to polish out. Scratches in the actual glass would be harder to deal with. Without this coating, the images won't be as nice as they would be with it but this way you get a usable image without the scratch artifacts. A nice restoration of a very ruggedly-used GoPro.

I know it’s a restoration channel but this guy has a beautiful imagination I’ve always commenting on your videos you’ve been a responsible KZbin since the beginning even with little things such as telling people look epilepsy warning stuff like that it makes you the best keep up the good work and I will keep watching.....
