Restoring My Garden Bench. Treatex Versus Vernites

I'm liking the vernites, seems to have more of a red tint which goes hand in hand with the red squirrels 🐿️ its crazy i havent seen one of them since i was a kid

@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT Good point on the colour tint with the Vernites pal. The grey squirrels virtually wiped out the native reds in the U.K. They Greys carry a pox that the reds aren’t resistant to and it kills them. We are one of the last pockets in England that still has them, if we see a grey we have to report it to the Wildlife Trust

Initially I would have said right side, but with the closer shots I think left. The left side has a richer, warmer look, which think looks nicer.

I like them as they are, both, keep it as it is! Both are a good contrast with the shades of stain on the workshop.

You will not be disappointed Leo. Absolutely stunning country. People are on another level here. I see more cars parked at the shops engine running windows and doors open. Nobody even attempts to steal. People even leave garages and front doors open while out. Imagine what you would come home to in the uk an empty house and car gone. Hope you get the bucket empty on Norway.

Hi Leo, hope your well, I'm in a bit of a fix here, I like both finishes may be stain every other slat one in light and the next in dark, just a thought. But if I had to pick the darker stain on the left. As always a great video, catch you soon take care

I was tempted to do what you mentioned pal with every other slat but I think I was still so traumatised from the cladding experiment I couldn’t bring myself to do it 😂😂😂

Left for me - goes just right for the squirrels. Have you tried oxalic acid as a treatment for water stains Leo? I find it cuts out a lot of sanding. It bleaches the wood a bit, but it’s great stuff.

Prefer the look of the right (Bankeroil) but could easily be swayed if the other finish is longer lasting. Time will tell.

Cheers pals Difficult to gauge how long it took me to sand it down as I’ve got other jobs on the go and I’m switching between them. It was a really awkward job to with all the angles and recesses etc. If I totalled it up as a guess I’d say around 3 to 4 full days worth of sanding

They both look good Dude. Were the seat made from but one species of wood, it’s personal taste. I think with the contrasting species, the darker finish is not as good as it would be on single species timber. The lighter finish is truer to design of the work, and I think that is a legacy worth preserving. But, it’s your seat Dude…

@@dwalsh3469 Cheers pal, good points really well made. You can still tell the difference even with the darker Vernites, but it is only subtle and not as obvious as the Treatex. What will also be interesting is how they perform with our weather over the next few seasons 🤷‍♂️👍

If you would work with 1 type of wood, I would choose the Vernites, but if you combine with several types of wood, it takes away the contrasts, and that is a shame for the project and for the money you spent on the more expensive wood.

You can still see the contrast in the wood with the Vernites, more so than the camera shows, but it isn’t as prominent as the Treatex. It will certainly be interesting to see how they both weather as a pigment and product the wood too 🤷‍♂️😀👍
