I'm jumping into the restoration of my 2006 Royal Enfield Bullet 500. I'll be removing the seat, draining and removing the gas tank, removing the exhaust and draining all the fluids, and getting it ready to remove the top end. I'm going step by step, so you can see the entire process and use this as a reference for your own bike. #royalenfield #bullet500 #motorcycle #losangeles #motorcyclerestoration

I'm literally doing the same exact project over here in India, on a 1972 350 Bullet. I'm as far as rebuilding the top end. Crank thankfully felt good so no need to break into the bottom end. I suspect I'll need a new clutch, controls, wiring harness, and maybe oil pump spindle depending on the condition of the current one... I'm also doing this in my building parking garage. Bringing my tools down day by day and laying down newspaper to catch oil drops in the 95 degree swamp that is my parking garage... looking forward to the rest of your vids. Check some of mine. Cheers!

Very cool! This work can be done in relatively small spaces for sure. A new video is coming tomorrow! And I subscribed to your channel

I bought a four-speed version of this in 2001, and after less than 2000 miles, thought it was so problematic that I basically parked it and forgot about it. I think it’s time to drag it out of the shed and address the issues, so I will be paying close attention to this series. You have a subscriber.

That oil was incredibly clean, it can't have done much since the last change, I'd have kept that header, there's no garauntee the new one will fit well, there is a huge amount of variation in fit and quality. If nothing else you could have sold it for a reasonable amount. I don't see the need to change out the timing chest cover. If the pumps aren't sealing well, they can be lapped in again. You'd need to do that with a new cover anyway. If I was going to change anything in that area, I'd probably look at fitting a set of bronze pump bodies if it's got the original steel ones, They do a high flow pump but in my experience, it probably isn't necessary if the engine is in a normal state of tune and all you do is pump loads of oil up to the top-end which can make it start leaking down the valve guides. Do consider changing the pump worm drive if there is any suggestion of wear on it.

Yeah, the oil only had about 300 miles on it. The main thing was to check for metal after the top end became problematic. I’m changing all of the fluids anyway. As far as the header pipe, hopefully I don’t regret it. I’m actually going with a new aluminum head anyway, so I’m confident enough that a new Hitchcock’s header will be fine. I’ve got new steel pumps and a new spindle, and will be changing the worm gear as well. I think the high flow pumps are not only unnecessary as you said, but could even be problematic with a stock setup. And yes, the pumps can always be lapped in with some Autosol. Thanks for watching and part 2 is coming soon!

Appreciate your rebuild. I'm sure this'll be a great series. A word of advice (from someone who has restored an iron barrel 350), DON'T chuck away old parts. A bit of cleaning up would've breathed new life into the exhaust and header. Moreover, the stock short muffler gives the characteristic thump of the bullet. Plus, it never hurts to have extra parts lying around. Wishing you the very best for your rebuild though.

Thanks and I’m usually good with saving parts. It felt good tossing that one, though 😂. I’ll be getting something very close to the original. Thanks for watching

Great video. I have a 4 speed 2003 500. The bike lasted this long from me watching videos like this and learning. I put small magnets on the oil pan bolts to catch metal as a extra precaution. Can wait for part 2.

Thanks for watching! I’ll be putting magnets on the bolts as well when this is wrapped up. Part 2 is coming soon with the removal of the top end.
