How dontou restore companionway stairs for your sailboat restoration project? This episode I'm restoring sailboat stairs for the Skipper 20 sailboat. The sailboat is missing companionway stairs to go down inside the boat. I found a pair of old stairs from another sailboat and I'm going to restore them and install them in the Skipper 20 trailerable sailboat.

A quick tip I like for removing the plugs (bungs) is driving a drywall screw into the center of the plug. When the tip of the drywall screw hits the screw head under the plug the threads on the drywall screw push the plug out. If it doesn't come out clean, I resort to a pick as you suggested. Another tip for installing the new plug is to try to line up the grain of the plug with the grain of the part, which it looks like you did. The plug almost disappears. Nice work!

I wonder why there’s so little information out there for restoring sail boats. I’m 20 and bought a Morgan 41 out island, kinda dove head first with my gf and I’m surprised at how little information there is, your channel is a life saver lol.

You can use a small Sheetmetal screw, screwed into the center of the bung, the bung will back out and not damage the edge of the bung hole If you use varnish on the new bung, instead of glue , you can remove the bung later with less effort. Just dip the bung into the varnish

Nice find and video on the redo of the steps. I was impressed also by your recent video of redoing teak and will be trying some of the tips you providerd. It wasn't mentioned in this video but it appeared that the silicon bronze screws removed from the steps and the new ones you replaced that the heads were reed & prince head (sharper tip and larger V angle) than a Phillips. Those are easy to strip out if you're using a regular Philips head screwdriver, which looked like what you were using?
