Restoring The Historic Chesterfield Canal: Staveley June 2024

Welcome to episode 9 of the Chesterfield Canal Restoration series - filmed in late June 2024.
On our last visit to Staveley, we saw lots of work had been done to clear vegetation ready for the contractors. We now have O'Briens the contractor onsite, complete with a working paddock. Lots of earth has been moved along with redirection of several footpaths through the site. Including one diversion up onto the disused railway line.
The ramp that formerley carried the Transpennine Trail over the disused mineral railway has now also been removed, ready for the canal to cut straight through. Piling platforms have been created ready for the new bridge foundations that will carry the Trans-pennine trail over the new canal cutting.

Great video Paul, there is some seriously heavy engineering going on there. Have they got a rough date for when the whole canal will be finished and joined to the network
