What a masterpiece! One of the best restorations of the channel so far. For me, this video summarizes two things: how resilient and extremely durable bikes can be and what is possible to do in terms of restauration when you have the pacience, the knowledge and the right tools to do the job. You guys are a huge inspiration for us!

I know you said that you don’t sell bikes, but I could guarantee you that many of the viewers of your channel would pay a hefty sum for the privilege of being able to buy one of the bikes that you restore. What you do is truly an art form. Any person riding one of these bikes would have to know that they were holding an immaculately maintained and built work of art. Thank you so much for sharing your incredible work with the world!

There's clearly a lot of effort and love that goes into these projects, and the videos. Not many people doing these restorations on YT either. I do like the weekly service vids, but these longer restorations are definitely my favorites! Takes a lot of skill and knowledge that most of us don't have

Totally agree thank you. This one took Simon literally 160 hours to make which he did over 2 weeks so it’s very hard for us to make. But we love making them so there will plenty more but we sprinkle them in after we’ve recovered from the last one lol!🧡

Another classic steel bike saved by Lee at Bikespeeds. What an epic restoration. So much work involved with this bike, but it shows your skill and experience solving issues with the pedals, freewheel, bearings, and paintwork. So many good commwnts of others who enjoy your work. Thanks Lee, and all the best to Simon too. We appreciate your efforts.

Thanks Todd from both of us it’s a real joint effort. Yes lots of work into these, took Simon 160 hours for his work alone which is crazy but we love KZbin and are still hungry to grow the channel. Thanks for always joining us from the start it makes the dream the reality for us 🧡

I just won an ebay auction for a January 1981 Carlton Criterium for a fiver. It's in a similar condition as this Peugeot. This video has inspired me to restore it. It has all its original parts apart from the front wheel and saddle. Thanks for great restorations of old steel cycles. Iv'e just got to source a front quick-release hub as I already have a spare original rim to build the wheel on. Can't find an original saddle as yet. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Best thing about these old steel racers is how tough & easy to maintain they are when you get them sorted. I found a 5 speed Coventry Eagle in a cellar years back, did it up & rode it all through my teens to my 30s. Just needed a can of oil, a tin of WD40 & basic tools to keep it running. On the flat it wasn't much slower than expensive bikes either lol.

I used aluminium foil to scratch off the surface rust from the chrome components. Since aluminium is softer than the chrome, but harder than the rust, I've never had any scratches left, but the rust removed brilliantly. Oh, and a roll of aluminium foil will last a lifetime 😎👍

Great job! it must take a lot of hours to restore everything in details, especially the chrome on the rims which is not always preserved. At least the braking surface on these rims are very durable. Also there are many cases where people try to insert standard pedals (9/16 inch diameter) into old french cranksets like Stronglight (14 mm). It works but it is very hard to remove the pedals after.. I have one crankset arm like this where the pedal is still stuck.
