Restoring Vintage Wedding Dress Found in the Rain by the Trash

Based on past experience, I would say this dress was put by the dumpster after the belongings of someone who had passed away were thrown out. My husband used to help an elderly disabled man who ran a thrift shop. At one time, a nearby nursing home would come and dump out the belongings of elderly persons who had passed. Where we live, elderly people come down to this area for their final years, and when they pass, a lot of the time their families from 'up north' (sorry, not trying to be hateful) will advise the nursing home to 'dispose' of their belongings. We used to find the most amazing things, but the sad part was that most of it was what people had accumulated over a lifetime, their most precious possessions. Sometimes it was hard to go through it. Anyway, I'll bet that woman hung on to that wedding dress hoping one of her children or grandchildren would want to wear it, only to have it put out by the dumpster. I hope I didn't bum you out, but I also hope that someone will want to wear that dress again. The woman who wore it first would be very pleased.

@@prissilou That’s such a sad story. Allow me to offer an alternative sad story from personal experience. A hopeful marriage turned abusive that eventually led to divorce...didn't want the dress for offspring as a reminder of it all so off to the donation pile in the hope that doing so instead of selling it would remove the bad karma associated with it. People's lives take all sorts of twists and turns

This is a beautiful dress 😍 my dream dress is close to that style. I would wear my grandmothers dress if she didn't lose it (her cousin has never returned the dress unfortunately). I agree with you about the belongings. When we are working on renovation of some old apartment or a house, the relatives don't even look at persons possessions, they call cleaners to throw everything. I am trying to save what I can, but a lot of their things end up in the dumpster. Last time I had an opportunity to save more than usual because we came before the cleaning company to take some measurements, their son didn't even want to bother to check out what would be thrown out. It makes me sad to see that, so heartless and disrespectful.I know how much my grandparents care about some of their belongings.

My daughter was invited to do a underwater photo shoot in a wedding gown…. The gown was old, stained and yellow …. So my daughter puts it on and into the swimming pool…. She was in and out for about an hour in a half…. When she took off the dress I set it out to dry…….. wowzerz to my amazement the dress was white no stains and the yellow was gone……. The tulle and the fabric was no longer flimsy…. Greetings from McAllen Texas

Yes, please be careful if your Wedding gown gown is made of wool, silk or Polyamid. The bleach (chlorine and peroxide) will do irreversible damage to the dress. I soaked some white Kids leggins in bleach that contained 10% Polyamid and the fabric fell apart in my hands while soaking.

I remember Montaldo's. I bought the dress for my 2nd wedding there. We were married outside by a lake, then a friend flew us away in his hot air balloon. Big poofy wouldn't have worked, so I bought something that looked appropriate...like a garden party. It was gorgeous! I look back in the photos and I know I did the right thing.

Even dirty, the dress was beautiful. The dress design is just stunning. Everything from the buttons to the lace down to the train...wow. After the dress was thoroughly cleaned, patched up and had the buttons put back in correctly then put out in the sunlight...No words. You did such a magnificent job on this wedding dress!!!
