RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE **Range Rover Sport** Warning Light on in Dash - L320 2005-2013 - WHAT IS IT?

Have you just had a warning light come on in your dashboard display saying ‘Restricted Performance’ with a red triangle in your Range Rover Sport TDV6, TDV8, SDV6 or even the 5.0L V8 supercharged one, and experienced a loss of power either when accelerating or at motorway speeds? What does is mean and what’s the fault with the engine? Has it gone into limp mode? It’s normally often one of 3 things that have developed a fault, a cracked inlet manifold, a faulty MAF sensor, or a sticky turbo solenoid. Apparently this fault is similar with other Land Rovers and Range Rovers due to many of them sharing the same/similar engines, so it could be the same issue you’re experiencing if you own another Land Rover.

Mine had that warning light and it went into lim mode. Went through a garage bought some anti freeze screen washing coz it was empty. Filled the washer started the vehicle.and well well well, guess what, the light disappeared and she went back to full functionality like a beast as usual. So ye any small thing and it will trigger the warning light sometimes nothing to worry about

Loving your videos 👍 got myself a 2013 range rover sport hse recently, lovely looking car in fugi White. Had limp mode come a few time especially when going over 50 mph. Got it checked out my the dealer and there was a air leak in the passenger side manifold. Luckily for me got it fixed under warranty ☺️ it's one of those vehicles that you are waiting on something going wrong and to empty your wallet but they are a lovely car and just brilliant to drive. Its a range rover thing 🤣 fingers crossed 🤞 nothing more serious happens 🤪 the previous owner of my range had to replace the sdv6 engine after 30k miles at a cost of 7k . So I hope I'm on to a winner with this new engine 👍🤞

I recently got my 2013 Discovery 4 back after having a reconditioned engine put in under warranty (thankfully!!) - it just blew up in a big way at 108,000 miles. Fortunately my local garage guy had warned me that these engines were prone to blowing after 100k so I bought the warranty. As I was waiting for the tow truck after it blew, a Range Rover pulled over and a guy came over to ask if everything was ok. I told him the engine had blown and he said '3 litre right? I'm a LR engineer, this happens all the time with these engines!' Anyway after a couple of weeks of breaking the new engine in (keeping under 60mph and below 3k revs) the coolant light came on. My garage checked it out and said it was ok. But it still kept coming on quite infrequently - mostly it seemed when going up a fairly steep hill). I checked the level and I'm not quite sure what level it should be at because I can't see any markings anywhere - but the level was just at the bottom of the reservoir. I put a bit more in but today I got the dreaded 'restricted performance' and the coolant light was on a few times today. Also, when I picked up the car I was told that there was a whining noise coming from the turbo and that they checked everything but can't find a problem. The told me to drive it for 500 miles and see if it 'settles in'. It hasn't and I'm waiting to get it back to the guys that put the new engine in. My local guy is sure that they've cross threaded a bolt and the turbo is not seated correctly and air is escaping. Incidentally, the guys who put he new engine in said 'we've done around 10 of these engines and yours is the only one that the warranty paid for, all the others were declined because their engines blew because of 'wear and tear'.

For the past 2 days my Range Rover Velar has be showing the sign 'OK to drive with caution Restricted Performance'. This sign only comes on when I move the car in the afternoon and I have notice it started when the weather is currently over 30°c plus. When I move the car in the morning there will be no of this sign but in the afternoon yes with very hot weather. Can I please be worry about this or it just becuase of the hot weather? Hello mate, they are 22x10.5 and I think et-32 all round, gets them just about flush with the arches then. They are 2Crave wheels from the USA, brilliant quality and finish.

Same issue with mine last week! Not flagged up again driving fine turbos working fine! I did clean the airflow sensors and changed the air filter so hopefully also a hissy fit!👍

Had the same message on my L405 SDV8. Turns out it was just my fuel cap. They hadnt tightened the cap properly.

2012 Range Rover yellow light pops on n off yellow triangle symbol. It was a little warm today I think in the 80s but that was about it.

This message can come up with water in the fuel filter sensor too. This also comes & goes. The key is if you still have full throttle response/power, then it will be none of the problems this gentleman is talking about. Most likely detected water in filter or sensor. Get it renewed job done.

Thanks for the video,I have a range rover evoque and it's been showing restricted perfomance,and it switches off while driving,when I accelerate I hear a wind like noice on the left side of the engine,and brings in petrol smell from the AC,please help

I'd recommend you get that looked at asap, I personally wouldn't be driving that if it's turning off when driving and you're getting a petrol smell in the car. Hope you get it sorted!

I happened to live where the temperature reaches 50+ Celsius and although or range Rover sports around here are petrol as diesel are not available of course I am referring to the L320 . With the naturally aspirated 5.0 V8 engine and they keep running with no trouble at all. I feel it is probably more of a problem withTurbocharged engine is in such extremely hot climates. I hope the problem you are having turns out to be a faulty sensor And nothing more.

Mine did the same. Hasn't occurred for over 2 weeks now since I had a service when air bag suspension error occurred. Mine was happening between 60 & 70 mph whilst cruising on motorway 🤔

Maf sensor doesn't regulate air flow, it monitors air flow. Throttle body regulates air flow

Partially correct, MAF measures airflow, however a diesel doesn't have throttle body to regulate air flow. Some have an anti-shudder valve that temporarily closes inlet air pipe at switch off to make the engine shutdown smoother

Nice and clear man. With my luck, i know...it will surely be a CRACKED INLET MANIFOLD. As as soon as I push on the pedal of my Disco 4 2010 the nasty red triangle appears(the turbo leaks obviously). Driving fully automatic in D, without any accelaration nothing happens. So I am wondering if i can just wait the MOT to sort out everything and put a good full 2500£ in it. I mean, driving it smoothly nothing really happens, more safe, slower obviously...but for how long can I wait? I must say that I am not really bothered, will the engine be instead?

Thanks, glad it helped! I'd probably get yours looked at sooner rather than later though as you don't want to risk further damage. Hard to say exactly what it is, but yes does sound likely to be the inlet manifold if it's coming on when the turbo kicks in... Best of luck.

Hi. Great video. Mine showed the reduced performance warning. The accelation stopped working thereafter. But after turning it off and on again, it no longer showed the warning and now accelarates fine. Is that normal?

Thanks, may have just been a glitch, like what happened with mine, or may be the start of something going... Keep an eye on it though if it does it again probably best to get the car checked.

When I drive my range rover in the morning to work it doesn't show nothing and its all good even if I drive for hours but once I stop the engine and start it agen it comes out restricted performance with the yellow sign , What does that means if u can help please?

Interesting one, might be one of the things I've mentioned in the video or could just be an error code/glitch. If it's doing it regularly though, best to take it into a garage and get it plugged in so they can read the fault codes and advise. Hopefully it's nothing serious!

May be water in the fuel sensor. Code p2264 on diagnostics.

Most of the time it’s supercharged pump, pump is not cooling the supercharge, replace the superchage pump and u will be fine

On my Range Rover Sport Supercharged, the performance restriction light came on but I didn’t lose any power or anything and after a minute or two it went away. Should I still take it to a shop to get checked?

May have just been a glitch, similar happened to mine and it was fine luckily, but I don't know with the Supercharged. Keep an eye on it and get it checked out if you're worried something isn't quite right.

I literally just got this warning on my dash yesterday. Also the suspension goes from firm to really spongy after driving for a bit and start creaking loud over bumps etc. :(

hmm, creaking could be the suspension arm or ball joints. Not sure what would cause firm/spongy ride though... Worth getting that checked really.

Put it up full extension on the suspension. Silicon spray grease all the bushings you can find front and rear. Spray the cv boots too if there clean it's good for the rubber try and get plenty around the air bag/ shocks . Basically spray everything where metal components are bolted together with a rubber Bush through the center. Give it a day or two repeat . The groaning and creaking will stop . Silicon is not harmful to the rubber its like a moisturiser for it. Protecting it and keeping it subtle . Done regularly every 6mnts or so . These sacrificial parts last for a very long time . Way longer than without it .

What model do you have? If you have the supercharged sport model it has dynamic suspension and it most likely is a strut, I had the same symptom and put a new air strut and solved the problem.

@@al-s hi mate ... am having a issue wit my 2010 autobiography ... its not putting up any warning lights r codes .... but it seems in the hot weather wen I go to start it its just spinning and spinning not starting leave it den for about 40 min r so go back out to it den it will start..... just wondering hav u ever had any issues like this.... plenty of power in battery and starter is turning fine ...it seems like a immobiliser issue r summit ..
