Everyone has a preference, great thing about guitar. On my lock tuners I pull the string tight then lock it, stretch, then tune up. For me I feel it maintains tuning stability better especially on a hardtail. But I think I’m going to try the wound g string. My 6s are in drop b, so I have a 20p on mine right now, but I feel the wound would intonate better. Especially I play 7 strings mainly so I’m already used to 4th wound. I use a 12-56 set for drop b, cause I saw jim root uses that for slipknot on a 6 string with a 25.5 scale. But again I feel the wound would be a lot better. I used the plain for soloing, but it is tricky to intonate. But awesome vid man. Like always

New comment on an old video... Wound Gs are typically used (at least from the years of guitar magazines I've read) because a plain G is harder to intonate properly, and its placement on the neck and the even temperament system used on most guitars makes a fretted plain G string typically ring sharp for most chords shapes. Having the wound G mitigates that a bit, because it lessens that pressure and the intonation issues, somewhat.

Hey Rob, I have a question for one of your Q&A videos. I got the idea from a Karl Sanders (Nile) facebook post. Do you still have a daily copy of a tour sheet from a Chimaira headline club tour? And can you for 'rona nostalgia sake give us some insight to what happens from the moment you arrive to a venue/ and then play and then leave, and all that happens in between... The quick city tour, dining with the crew in town, the laundry moments, pre/after show fan greetings, how do toilet moments/stops get planned for an entire tour bus full of people, the american homevibe you get from American fastfood places outside the USA (which I learned from a 1998 Slayer video), the catering in the clubs, how do the merch guys (of different bands) divide the financial tasks at the merch booth, guest band timing of setup and play times and following curfew measures, etcetera... Hmmm, that might be a long answer... Maybe you should talk about this in an entire separate video someday :) Just a full headlining touring experience. No stress or anything, just let the idea sink in :)

Maybe it's just my ocd getting to me but I would suggest protecting the lower portion of the body with a micro fiber cloth or an old towel. Just for those times when inevitably the stop bar falls off and hits it or a string scrapes it while installing or removing them. Just putting that out there for some people who might be new to doing their own guitar maintenance or maybe don't have a ton of guitars and are afraid to ruin the one they have. Love the viper though. I thought it sounded killer in that tuning. I've always wanted to get one. I just haven't found the right one.
