I've long wanted to nail all of the top scores with the most popular LGA775 and 1366 CPUs. On X58 the hardest ones remaining have been the extreme variants of the Bloomfield CPUs, aka Core i7 Extreme 975 and 965 and obviously the Gulftown 980X. I was able to buy two preselected 975 CPUs from Gigelz as he is pretty much quitting the overclocking scene at least for now, and they were the same batch as the legendary Stummerwinter CPU.
Both of the chips did over 4.7GHz WPrime 32M on water cooling at 1.36v, so it was only the question about cold scaling on LN2. I started with the better one and in the end, it was able to crown itself as the fastest Bloomfield CPU that ever existed. Over 6.2GHz validation, as well as multicore benchmarks above 5.8GHz. There is some headroom remaining, as I am sure the CPU can run Super PI 32M even above 6GHz.
This is certainly the hardest one of them all to break the top scores with. So now the remaining models are the Core i7 Extreme 965 and i7 950. I am still looking a better 980X as that one would be absolutely epic as well, as motherboard vendors invested a lot in 980X results.
