Part two of my Series 2A Land Rover restoration. This time, it's bodywork removal! Shorty is a 1965 SWB Land Rover which I am attempting to get back on the road after she failed her mot a couple of years ago on chassis corrosion.

Howdy from Reno, Nevada USA. I’m really like your videos. I have a 1964 LANDY and have been planning for month’s, to do a restoration. Maybe, this summer , I’ll start. It’s in need of a new frame. Thanks for your help.

Hi! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. If you’re putting a new chassis under your Land Rover, a lot of what I’ve been doing so far won’t be much use to you, but stick around as I will be doing work on other parts of the vehicle too!

Great video Phil, really like these old petrol landies, you have a calm way of narrating what your doing on the Landie. It does seem a long winded way of getting to repairing the chassis, but it’s definately more thorough this way and makes it easier to get to all parts of it that need attention. Looking forwards to watching pt3 now.

Man, your one cool dude. Fantastic approach with the filming. Really looking forward to seeing this old lad back on the road. Please consider a full restoration, That's one good looking truck.

Thanks! The rough plan is to get the chassis back into a good state of health so that I can put her back on the road as soon as I can. Then, I’m intending to do the more cosmetic things as a rolling restoration, because mechanically she’s in pretty good order. I’m pleased you like the filming, I’m quite new to it but I’ve had good feedback so far. Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This is Soooooooo useful. I've purchased an unfinished project, and need to take everything off for spraying - this info is invaluable...... basically because I'm too lazy to read the Haynes manual end-to-end.... :-)

Wow, your body panels are very straight for a 54 year old Land Rover. I have a series 2a, military LWB. I'm also doing a body-off restoration. Very interesting video. Well made and edited. Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪

Thanks! Yeah, I don’t think it’s had a hard working life, although I don’t know much of the history apart from the first owner was a doctor. Thank you for your kind remarks about the video. I’ve only just started doing this, so it’s all a learning curve for me. Best of luck with your restoration, and thanks very much for your interest!

This is going to be very interesting to follow! Quite an inspiration to my own 1966 88" petrol HT project. Please keep up the good work, sir.👍😀 many greetings from Sweden.

SS bolt set for the roof is well worth while. When I took my roof off it took half the time to do 90% of them. The other half for the seized buggers

Yep, I have certainly been looking into stainless options for the fixings for when it comes to putting her back together!

A bunch of 7/16 bsf bolts to go round the roof and again at the back of the seat box is well worth it. Personally I don’t like ss for everything, there’s no need and I hate a “ blingy “ Rover I have found that 60 year original unplated 7/16 and 1/2 “ Bolts usually come undone and when wire brushed are pit free where 5 year old plated shit steel ones just round off or shear. Rover for quality. !

My transmission tunnel is exactly as yours. It’s got to be aligned right and even then I have to spring it into the fitted position.

That’s interesting. Mine has become deformed at the edge from years of people levering it past the catch. I’ll give it some more thought when I put it back next time and see if there is a better way of putting it back. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Mine had the same problem with the tunnel hitting the catch. At the time I assumed LR fitted the catch after the tunnel😁

Brings back memories 🤣 I much prefer the deeper sill on early 2a’s mine was virtually a 3 on a G reg had outbound headlights as well. Do you plan to voiceover most videos or talk to camera at all?
@rustyrestorations5579
@rustyrestorations5579 3 жыл бұрын
I do agree with you about the deeper sills, they look much better. Regarding the voiceover / talking to the camera, it’s mostly to do with what I’m doing at the time. In the case of these first two videos, where I’m mostly stripping the truck down, and much of the footage is sped up, it’s not practical to talk to the camera, so I add the voiceover later. As things progress, and I’m doing something which I can talk through as I do it, you’ll notice more of me talking direct to the camera. I’m still finding my way with the videos at the moment, and I expect that as I do more of them you’ll start to notice a ‘style’ emerge, for want of a better word. So I guess the answer is that I will do both! 👍🏻👍🏻
